BRM Camshaft Wear related threads:

A number of owners of cars equipped with the BRM PD TDI engine have reported premature wear of the camshaft and related top-end components. Not every car equipped with this engine has these issues, but the number of owners experiencing this issue is not insignificant. In the North American market, the '05.5, '06, and '06.5 Jetta TDI were equipped with this engine. Other markets may feature this engine in different cars and different model years. on 2/18/2011 MkV TDi has a tech bullatin to upgrade a ECU setting for O2 sensor setting that may cause check engiine light to come on

Any threads about 06 Jetta or similar not getting AM, but getting FM stations? Does this car have the shark fin antenna for the satellite radio(mine has this)and AM? I called VW dealer and they have no idea why I get FM, no AM.

Front Wheel Bearing MKV
(This is a lot easier than it appears, I'm in no way mechanically inclined. The hardest part is trying to get off a wheel bearing and rotor that are nearly seized after its unbolted. 10 min with a sledgehammer solves this :) )

You don't necessarily have to remove the ball joint, if your spline is loose, you can just push it back slightly to pull the wheel bearing bolts out and do the same to put the new bolts in. If you can't move your spline back, then I believe you have to lower the ball joint to get it out...


Tools needed:
Make sure you get 4 brand new wheel bearing bolts and a brand new axle bolt.

-Smaller sledge hammer and a prybar for smashing a stubborn wheel bearing that is stuck on.
-24mm twelve point socket for new axle bolt (27mm 6 point to remove existing if you have a 6 point bolt on currently, which mine had)
-21mm 6 point socket
-12mm triple square extended socket bit 3-4" extension
-7mm hex socket bit
-Extended Flex Ratchet for extra torque
-T30 Torx For rotor screw
-Torque Wrench
-Small flat screw driver for sensor
-Anti-Seize for all bolts


Be sure to torque 21mm bolts, 12mm triple square bolts, 24mm twelve point before the wheels get installed, so while its still in the air.

*Depending which axle bolt you have, torque specs vary greatly
The 12 point non-serrated inside flange axle bolt is torqued to 148 ft/lbs plus 180 turn
The 12 point serrated inside flange axle bolt is torqued to 52 ft/lbs plus 90 degree turn
The 21mm caliper bolts are tightened to 140ft/lbs

i am new to the sight so i apologize in advance if this is wrong.
i have a 2006 Jetta that is in a no start condition the battery is charged and it cranks. i believe it could be the injectors however i do not want to take them out if i am not sure. i have changed the fuel filter and it made no difference. i don't know where i should start to diagnose this issuei have two codes a p2101 for the throttle actuator and a code for the cylinder 1 circuit open.
please help

When my 2005.5 Jetta TDI is parked uphill for a week or longer, sometimes it cranks but won't start. When this happens I get the engine to start by cranking the engine for about 15 seconds, usually with the accelerator floored (but I am not sure if doing that with the accelerator pedal really helps any).

Figure out why those codes are set and get those issues, if real, resolved.

I have tried to crank with the pedal down for longer than 15 seconds however this did not work. I have some oil leakage towards the back of the engine near the turbo there is a tiny bit of oil in the connector to the throttle actuator do you think this could have any affect

I have this same uphill situation with my 2006 Jetta. If I keep the engine lower than the fuel tank I have not had this problem. Just wondering if DieselDavid knows why this happens and is there a fix for it? I am suspect of the tandem pump seal letting fuel drain back in return lines. It appears to leak slightly because of the oil and dirt collecting around it and on the left side of the head. Would like to have this fixed. Thanks.

My guess is the same as yours, Gdub. That the fuel in the lines might be slowly draining back into the tank. After this no-crank/extended-crank situation happened a few times I began parking in my driveway by backing in with the engine lower than the tank. This workaround worked and still works.

And whatever might be leaking under the hood should get figured out and fixed!

That's exactly what I have been doing. If I back in it isn't a problem and once it starts it is good for the day and no issues. I believe I will replace my tandem pump due to the visual leaking I am seeing. With 134K on the car it won't hurt it and may save me some grief down the road. Thanks for the response DieselDavid.

Tandem Pump Replaced

No more leaks, quick starts, smoother acceleration, smoother running at cruise and I can park uphill. It appeared I was getting fuel over to the vaccum side slightly. Got the part at Autohaus for $244. Good money spent.

2010 jetta sunroof drain exit location

Hello. First post to this site, so I hope I am doing this correctly. I have a 2010 Jetta TDI with a leak in the sunroof that is coming into the cabin from the driver side visor hinge and visor light on the roof. It seems my drains are clogged. I tried running weed trimmer line through, but couldn't get the line all the way thorough. I want to find the ends of the drains and cut the tube nipple off. My problem is finding where they end. I have searched far and wide and can not find the terminus of the drains. Any help on their location and how to access them would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
