So how do you guys stand on someone unhooking both front wheel speed sensors back in November 2015 so no more miles were put on the car so it's getting turned in with 38k on it?

How would you feel about getting your turn in, and then finding out that VW paid you in Canadian dollars? ($1 Canadian = 75 cents US)

Is Sardo67 possibly being sardonic? No gray area in the ethics of odometer fraud.

Doesn't matter how anyone feels about that.

Odometer fraud, a felony crime.

Just wondering if anyone has returned a stripped TDI yet. Please, I'm not interested in hearing your thoughts on the ethics of me removing parts from my vehicle that is producing illegal emissions. I want to know if anyone has received full value with their vehicle not having a radio, etc.
I called VW and got two different answers before the one woman who said it would be fine said "I cannot confirm this is acceptable and nobody here can either."
Divorce American style!

I'm calling BS on this.

You have nothing to base this claim on. - Show me 1 example of someone who was denied a check with a drive-able car at their appointment because of the condition of the car, or missing parts, and I'll buy it.

Otherwise it's just the claim specialist lying to reduce stripped car returns.

They've never denied a stripped car to date because of missing non drive-train parts.

I won the lottery? How so?
I planned to own the car for many years, but now it would need a fix (which doesn't exist) and there's always the issue of not having it fixed and my state deciding that it shouldn't be on the road come registration renewal time.

I honestly think VW should be buying it back at MSRP when I bought it.

If you want to keep the car many years keep it. No one is requiring you to fix anything. If you want to strip your car and risk getting it rejected go for it. The worst thing that could happen is you are stuck with a stripped car and you get no buy back.

Yep.

Intentionally removing parts aside, posting this sort of stuff causes a lot of stress and confusion for people who are looking to return damaged (normal wear and tear or otherwise) vehicles. We have seen slews of reports from people who have returned vehicles that are damaged, missing components, or are otherwise in less that 100% condition. Claims processing hasn't done so much as bat an eye at these vehicles - only checking to ensure that the cars run and move under their own power. Until we have evidence that someone has gotten turned away for a less-than-perfect vehicle, it isn't productive to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt about something that is already clearly defined in the settlement.

Yeah when you get rejected and you have to try and contact VW lots of luck getting a response. From the what we have read we have seen one person who turned a car with missing headlights and front bumper. Since then we have heard buy back specialists tell people VW was angry with this and told to acccept no more buybacks in this condition. If you car is damaged in an accident it makes sense to turn in this way. But to pull things off your car in malice is just stupidity.

And when some idiot does this and gets rejected and can't a hold of anyone for months and complains about it I will laugh.

I'm gonna file that under "fake news." I have seen nothing that corroborates that claim. Can you point to a credible source or provide an example of someone actually getting turned away?
So we have one person who has turned in a semi-stripped VW and yet this is the only thing you base it on that they will accept them. That could just as easily be fake news. If you want to turn in a stripped car what do you need from us just do it and deal with the consequences if there are any. Seems stupid from my point of view.

I hear a lot of people talking about doing it but not anyone posting about actually doing it. If you are so sure strip you car what do I care. Just if something goes wrong don't complain about it.

Just got my buyback appt. date today, Jan 13th. I am a little concerned about accident damage, the car was recently rear-ended so it needs a new bumper cover and there is a dent in the tailgate (2014 JSW), everything works fine on the car, tail-lights, backup camera, and the tailgate itself opens and closes properly so I would call this cosmetic damage. Rest of car is in perfect shape. I called the hotline several times to make sure this damage would not affect the buyback and got the same answer that we all have been getting. Anyone else have this type of damage and get rejected ?

One person that we know of turned in his car missing the front bumper and headlights. Numerous others, according to the condition thread here on TDIClub, have turned in cars in varying conditions, including missing components, stereos, riding on steel wheels, with significant accident damage, etc.

Or are we looking for the holy grail rolling chassis or custom convertible to get turned in and nothing else will suffice?

I'm not saying that I want to turn in a stripped car. I'm saying that Volkswagen has no authority to turn away a car that is less-than-complete. Saying otherwise is just spreading FUD when we have no evidence to back up those claims and plenty of evidence against those claims.

This thread is about turning in an intentionally stripped vehicle. Post your concerns elsewhere.

The regional manger is on the phone right now with my local VW buy back ambassador.
I got word to him on this and he will get a call back on this.

asked what will the coarse of action on a car that was stripped of hard parts before buy back

What is the plan on a crashed car with damage not claimed on insurance?

He just called me back

OK good to have friends

If you strip the car at the time of return it in to VW. They will take pictures and send them out when you are there they will talk in real time on it and will hold up the payment if they feel you acted un appropriately! As they should most see this as a crime!!

If it is damaged they are working on the same lines but have some leeway on this will takes pictures and do the talk in real time!

I think the damaged thing is hard what if you got a check on damages and cashed it it is kind of double dipping right!!
Remember they got you money just waiting in a bank how long do you wish to wait???

I hope this help I took the time to make the calls and ask nicely for all of you. If you are not happy then do you own calling and data mining this is all common sense !!

I spoke about this today with my local buyback specialist at the dealer as well.

He said there is no phone number for him to contact VW directly as he works for a third party, so he would call his boss if a car was questionable, but he had no idea if he'd be able to get a reply from VW right there at the appointment or not.

He said he would probably let it go through if someone chose the EFT, and send VW pictures so they could deny the car before sending the EFT, that way it would not be his fault if he gave someone the check for a car that was disqualified.

I have 3 buyback appointments scheduled for Jan 9th, and I'm thinking about removing all the doors, just to put this thread to rest.

I'll be the guinea pig, and in the worst case I'll just have to re install the doors, and (Maybe) reschedule the appointment.

I have 3 cars scheduled for that day @ 2:00pm, 3:00pm, and 4:00pm so I might be able to drive back home throw the doors on and bring it back with my next appointment.

I had my turnin yesterday - I was chatting with the service advisor that we normally use, and he mentioned that he saw the article in Jalopnik with that same picture of the one car without a bumper. That's the only case that I know of, and none of us have any idea how many people will actually try this however.

But if you need instructional videos for how to strip a car, I found this :D:
