I just turned 225,000 and my motor mount broke. punched through the timing belt cover tore up the tensioner, but the timing belt is still in place. I'm hoping that it didn't jump the timing. I just had the belt changed at 200,000 at the dealership. Any chance that somthing they did could have caused this? Anyway... I was loving life and my v-dub and I hate to see the jetta go. Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks...

Less than 800 miles from 300,000 miles. The engine is OE, excluding the usual TB kit stuff.

I have two 200k's

First we have a 2003 Blue Jetta with just over 200K and I also have a rebuilt Pickup with a 1998 TDI (all electronics and 5spd) that has just over 200K and a little over 10K on the conversion date.

These engines are alot of FUN :D. I think these engines could go without glowplugs. The 1.6TD had to have them but these are actually incredible, (which I do live in the SW part of Missouri).

I would like to know if anyone has ever tested how cold one of these would start without GP's????? Reply if anyone knows!

217,000 miles and going on a 01M with only one tranny oil change. I've been lazy with saving for labor cost to do the 5 speed swap even with parts collected. Does it slip? Occasionally but as much as any car with that many miles would. It only stumbles when you dog it and then punch it. AAA Plus card is in my wallet. Can you be any more prepared?

218 000 miles ;-), hmmm, rebuilt alternator and both radiator fans. Front door locks and bonnet microswitch need to be repaired, kind of given up after repairing them a few times, oh, and rear arm, where the solenoid pushes against to open boot lid, broke last week, did permanent repair on it, didn't feel like replacing complete panel.

All my own miles from new...

237,200 miles on my 2001 Jetta GLS TDI 5-Speed when I got home from work but I just bought it a few days ago, drove about 150 miles on the 1/8 tank it came with and then clocked over 250 miles in the first 36 hours after my first fill-up without even going beyond my normal errands and work trips so far.
Can't say what's original and what's not but so far so good...
Still runs right according to a buddy's vag-com but really needs nozzles balanced or upgraded and a PD intake for adding some actual get up 'n go asap. :)

Just bought the car (Jan '12) as a daily commuter car. This is my first diesel of any sort other than a couple tractors I grew up with. I'm the second owner of the car and it has a solid service record and docs. Nothing major has gone wrong with the car to date and I'm hoping it continues with that stellar record.

A friend of mine has an '03 Jetta that he's done some mods to and he's getting ~50mpg out of it. He has been singing the praises of diesel for years. So....the opportunity arose for me to buy the car off a co-worker, and I jumped at the chance.
Currently it needs a glow plug harness, a glove box latch, an arm rest latch, and a panel light dimmer switch.....other than that it seems to be in terrific working order.
I've been driving a '98 Chevy Prizm (Corolla) and when I drove the Golf it immediately just felt so much more solid and composed.

My first tank of fuel returned 44.3mpg for me, which, compared to the Prizm...I should save ~$900/year on fuel even with the higher price for diesel.

I'm also thinking of trying to source and install one of the taller 5th gears for it since 95% of my commute is on the interstate. I've seen that they can offer 11-15% drop in rpm, which would move my operating rpm from ~2200 to ~2000. That would probably net me ~$100/year of savings....but when the gear costs $350.....hmmmm.... I'll have to think about that one. I might be better off saving my money for those little things that will inevitably need replacement....shocks, bushings, switches and connectors of all sorts.

Sooo...thus far... love it!!

I found this forum a while back and have been lurking....silently repressing my inner desires to achieve 50mpg on a regular basis in my 110 mile/day commute....and must say that this seems like a great community to be involved in. I look forward to being further educated in the ways of diesel.
