I'm getting close to the mark, I hope to turn the 500,000 mile mark on July 12 2013, that the day I drove it off the lot 10 years ago. I just might have to do a road trip to get the need miles.

I would likely email VW and would certainly contact a state paper and see if they are interested in doing a story.

Someone at VW told me that they would send me a letter of accomplishment, won't that be nice!

Local dealership might give you some freebies (accessories or swag) for a few photo ops. Worth a try. You pass by so many on your daily commute, haha!

Yeah I plan on stopping by the dealership where I got my TDI and ask them if they ever saw one of their cars with 500,000 miles on it.

When you get there, we want to see pictures (glamour shots), pictures (glamour shots), pictures (glamour shots)! Use this as an excuse to detail the %#^$&@ out of it! Some of us want to see what a car like this looks like!

I'm over due for an entire make over! 80% of the clear coat has peeled off of the hood, roof, and the trunk. I want to redo the entire interior, the overhead and door panels are sagging. The glamour is all gone!

Congrats! You drive more than I do and I log around 1k miles/week.

IIRC, with the Mk4 cars, from what I gleaned from another thread is the odometer rolls over to zero again at somewhere past 625k miles, whatever 1 million km (1 Gigameter) converts to in miles. The ECU and instrument cluster internally only know the distance in km and the instrument cluster simply displays the odo reading in miles for our convenience. Supposedly the odo rolls over to zero at 1 Gigameter. It is a tribute to these cars that we even need to worry about this problem at all.

Good luck.

Interesting. I know in the A3/B4 models, the odo rolls over to 0 at 300k and "total" disappears from the display. It happened to a friend of mine, and he was wondering what was different about the dash. He looked at my car and realized it said "total" and his now didn't.

Sounds good, have a sister in the area so I might be able to camp out at her place.

Our 2003 is up over 836,000 km... (519,466 miles)... One dealer where I picked up a few parts said to talk to them when we get close to a million km... (there are quite a few cars out there with more than 800,000 km...) - I hope they don't plan on charging us for a "diagnostic" to tell us why the odometer will stop working...

I'm wondering what we should do when the odometer gets "stuck" at 999,999 km...

Congrats. Talk to the dealership, perhaps they will host a small GTG for you & the others in the area that evening. Free advertising & promotion for them. They just might jump on it.

I guess you can say its all original, still have the orginal turbo, cam, injectors, I did recently replace the VNT and some vacuum lines that solved the limp mode problem. Of course I have changed the timing belt kits every 100k and at the 400k mark I used idparts high milage timing belt kit. I did replace the clutch once, Still original wheel bearings on all four wheels. I have the Dieselgeek oil bypass filter system so i'm changing oil every 20K miles. I'm in need of a paint job, losing the clear coat on the hood, roof, and trunk, also need to the interior redone, material on headliner and door panels are falling off. I guess that it.

Well I started out with what the dealer was using because I got free oil and filter changes for life, after a 2-3 years of that, I found some TDI'r to work on my car. Then I started using Amsoil, then a custom blend made in Ohio by a company called BND, Start at 10w42, then 12.5w45, and it was expensive......and if I was going to still lose oil I'm not going to use the high dollar stuff. Now I have been using Shell Rotella T-6 5w40, very happy with it. I also use an oil additive, Motorkote.
