Hey y'all
Unfortunately I won't be around on the 8th, but would like to keep up on the latest happenings... I'll just lurk about on the discussion forum until the next meeting I guess.
Biodiesel...you people rock! Just as I was reading about the Maui and Seattle biodiesel projects, I was thinking it would be really great if we had that here in the SF bay area. Let's try to make it happen.
As far as how I got my TDI in California: it was a real pain, but worth it. There were a few 2001 Golf TDI GLS's around the bay area when I started looking back in July, actually. Hayward VW and Dublin both had one each. I decided I really wanted a 2-door GL (yeah, I know I'm really picky), so I waited until the 2002's started rolling in in September and talked to several dealerships. Broadway VW in Oakland said they'd try to pull it off for me, since they new that the allocation for California was something like less than 4 vehicles. So I placed my deposit back in September, giving me the first right of refusal; and then they started looking around for one. Apparently the one they were able to get for me was headed for a different dealership, but because the dealer advocated for me, they were able to intercept it and send it to Oakland. It arrived about a week ago, and I went to buy it last Saturday. They wanted a $5000 markup but I talked them down to $3700, for a total price of $20,650. With taxes and a 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty, the price OTD (out the door) was $24k, but I had to go with their financing plan. Pretty good, all in all.
Now I'm looking into mods. I just had the tinting don today; I put in the aluminum shift knob; and mudflaps/splash guards are waiting to be put in.
take care
Tri Do
