I thought VW used the CHF-11S?
I just flushed my power steering system (2004 TDI), and decided to use Pentison CHF 202 as the replacement fluid.

Searching the forums, there are a few others using CHF-202 for their pre 2006 vehicles as well.

ID Parts sells Pentosin CHF-202. Look at their application list.

Important note on fluid compatibility
http://www.pentosin.net/pressreleases/CRP_101_Fluid_Guide.pdf]

If vehicle specifications state CHF 7.1, CHF 11S and CHF 202 can be substituted in place of, but not mixed with, CHF 7.1.
CHF 11S and CHF 202 are fully compatible and mixable. Pentosin CHF fluids should not be mixed with ATF fluids.

Good information. I also opted to replace my fluid with CHF 202 mostly because of availability and compatibility. The information you posted is very good and show how closed the two products are. The guy at the NAPA counter showed me a compatibility table that says that CHF 202 works for the 2003 Jetta.

My golf is making an unpleasant noise on low speed right turns. PS reservoir is low. Oops. Want to be a nice guy and get proper fluid rather than deciding it’s a hoax and throwing in Walmart brand “universal - mixes with ANY color” PS fluid with unavoidable stop leak additive.

I’ve gotten over the mental hurdle of 11s/202 price, but how do I know if my system is currently filled with 7.1? I see that 7.1 is also green
Don’t want to cause issues

Then, there's always that cheap Dollar Store stuff when you basically have no other choice. While out in a remote area driving back roads, it happened to me with the PS system on my Van which has the TDI engine and PS pump. And, the Vanagon PS system was designed for ATF fluid which is mostly a Pump thingy rather than hoses and rack & pinion.

Of course, after the PS rack rebuild, I flushed it all out and replaced with spec stuff (no ATF). Has been performing well almost two years, and very quiet too!

So, I may just give the Pentosin a try.. Thanks for sharing your research and findings!

Short of doing fluid analysis, I don't know if that can be determined.

7.1 is not compatible and cannot be mixed with 11s or 202.

If you suspect you have 7.1 installed and want to move up to 11s or 202, just do a good flush and replace.
