What's everyone's take on original parts missing? For example, turning it in with my worn winter tires on 15" steelies instead of my newish summers on the factory 17" alloys? Do you think they're gonna have an issue with that and possibly deduct value?

Visited Reno VW this pm. They started their buy-back today with 2 received vehicles bought back. Said they had appointments for at least a dozen more next week. I told them I was still waiting for 'the offer'. Advised me to bug the VW folks via their call line.

Green Checks for more than a month, now incomplete!!!

Argh! I got the "ten business days" docs complete email in October. Today, I get a documents incomplete email and finally see a change in the portal - not the one I want! Part of the bottom edge of my title was cut off -all relevant details clearly visible and already green-checked in October!!

OK - here's some whine for someone to scoff at. Tell me how lucky I am to be getting a buyback (someday) and how poor VAG can't be expected to keep up. Single owner, no loan/lease. Bought this heavily optioned lightly used, as a temporary treat. Truly my dream car, but I never meant to be driving this big of a cash pile for this long. I'm a $3k-$10K or under, fix-it-up, drive it a lot, and sell it for more kind of diesel head. I had about a six month window for owning this car, knowing the very high retention of resale value would let me turn over fast when I needed the cash to buy a house. Nearly two years later, I need the cash for ulcer treatments.

Every day since Nov 1, thinking any minute. Saw offer/appointment posts and spreadsheet notes from many who had later dates for green checks. Talked to Plantiffs' rep who said VAG was telling court they were processing in order received (surprise, a lie). Finally saw those stats a few days ago showing they had pushed a huge number of us to documents complete status (clearly to try and show some movement to the court at this week's status meeting - though not the movement that counts!) Realized only a tiny fraction had appointments, and called my Audi dealer just to see how fast they were moving.

That was Tuesday and the ambassador said their specialist was about to do the very first buyback! They have only four slots per day (in highest per-capita TDI area of US) and were booked about three weeks out.

Clearly bad news, but not as bad as getting knocked back a step after waiting more than a month for offer letter! Guess I'm changing the danged euro oil and dirty diesel filter one more time and praying for the intercooler as I'm stuck with this as my mountain/snow/ice car.

Just a random thought I had:

I am glad I am not that company that owns 5000 TDIs. Imagine trying to get all of their docs done, submitted, etc...

I'm pretty sure there's a streamlined process for that company, and for any other large fleet owners.

VW had time to worry about a streamlined process yet can't get ours correct? I think you have too much faith :)

I would bet that VW is trying to come up with one after a few complaints from the large customers :)

Still a funny thought.

Is this with VW Credit? Isn't there a grace period? With actual loans there is...

Just saying...

So my ID got rejected because it was a military id and I recently just uploaded a black and white copy of my passport. Has anyone had black and white id photos accepted or is this probably going to get rejected too?

I submitted my documents electronically yesterday morning. Within 4 hours I had an email back telling me my documents had been accepted.

Seriously? And I uploaded mine on 9/23 and they've not been looked at. This really blows.

I got the offer letter Friday the 11th - sent via fax my acceptance papers on Sunday the 13th. The portal info for me still says its waiting for my fax.

Anyone know how long faxes sit idle before the next step is available? Which is scheduling a buyback day/time I think. This process seems overly slow IMO. Just an observation.
Update: I should have added that I uploaded the first set of documents the claims center asked for on Oct. 27th. Exactly 2 weeks later I get the "Documents accepted" and they buyback offer - which was for $25907.78. So all those buyback calculators were 'off' by $.78! I paid cash OTD $24,974. So I'm getting 'paid' almost $1000 for driving a very nice car 22k miles over 3+ years? What a country!:D

Just looking at the spreadsheet and my own timeline it looks like VW/Claims center have arbitrarily paced most of us along this process at two week intervals. Oct 27th - a Friday - Nov 11th - a Friday - Nov 25th - a Friday - next? That would be the final acceptance and "go here to schedule your buy back date" should be next - and this coming Friday - Dec. 9th! Each step a two week/10 business day pace.

It took my faxed & notarized documents exactly 2 weeks (or 10 working days if you like) to be accepted - which occurred on Nov. 25th - one day after turkey day. Same speed as others that did the upload - same two week - 10 working/business days period. Each time I tried to upload my PDF (5-6 times) I got an Error Code: 403 each time. I'm guessing that I'll get the "Documents accepted" (finally!) on Dec. 9th - this coming Friday.

Faxing your paperwork neither speeds up nor slows down this process for you. The ones that have already scheduled their buyback did nothing different - they were the 'guinee pigs' - the ones that were selected - probably randomly - to see how smoothly this process was going to be - how long it takes etc. Now that the buyback people have gotten some experience at this and know what to expect I think things may be speeding up. We shall see.

I contacted the dealer where I bought my TDI and will be doing the buyback. I asked the sales gal if they have a buyback 'ambassador' in-house - she said yes - he's been here for 'about a week' and that they had several buybacks scheduled for that day - Thursday IIRC. At any rate I'm guessing I'll be able to offload my car somewhere about the end of Dec or first few weeks in January. I'll update when I get more information. Friday I hope.

So much for guessing the timeline of the claims process. I just checked my email half an hour ago and I had a notice to sign into the portal to schedule a buyback date. I was so sure it would be Dec. 9th since everything I've done so far was responded to in that 2 week/10 business day pace. Car goes back a few days before Christmas day. Soon enough - only two+ weeks!

What exactly do the green checkmarks in the portal mean? Am I already deemed eligible to complete the settlement and am just waiting for an offer?

Yes. Once you reach that stage they go through the process of determining your eligibility, then that is vetted by an external auditor, then an offer letter is drafted. Each of those three actions could take anywhere from 10 to 30 business days depending on which way the wind is blowing at Claims Processing HQ.

I am at the green check marks as well

My earlier faxed docs were rejected b/c of the poor quality.

I followed the sites suggestion to use my cell camera. Worked fine.

So, eligibility is checked a few times then an acceptance letter.

Do I sign that? Return it notarized?

Then the dealer appt.?

Thanks

Well 30 days is only being used now because the clock didn't start running on anyone until November 1st which would make this day 25 for the longest person out there. I am sure once we get 31 business days the timeline will change again.

I am not understanding why VW is stalling here. The amount of hoops they put up is unnecessary. They don't need to hire more people. That's just a BS excuse to stall this process and drag it out for another 6 months to a year. Dealers are bored, they do this crap everyday. Verify ownership and agreed upon amount, plug it in to a program to verify the vehicle qualifies, verify the vehicle runs and was driven in, get a payoff, notarize the "I hold not future claims for the vehicle, power of attorney for the title. EBT or check in the mail. Done.

Whatever fees the dealers would charge for this service would be at worst case a wash.

VW clearly has an agenda here, and it's not to win back customers. Is the judge tooo stupid to see this?

I agree. VW credit handles tons of new loans everyday. The dealers handled tons of trade ins before the scandal occurred. They got rid of the CEO of VW North America because he gave out the gift cards. Now they got some guy who is trying to make this is a hard for VW owners as possible. If they aren't doing this on purpose than they are clearly incompetent and the guy in North America should be fired.
