*these rods w/pistons came out after my timing belt incident and i'm upgrading the internals. however, the car did still start (slow to catch), and after cleaning, i see no evidence of any contact, and piston protrusion all checked out sane (within 1-hole range, but when i did the head job previously i believe i intentionally erred on side of caution and installed 2-hole, or perhaps because that's what was on there before most likely, original head i believe). intake lifters were all damaged but valves to the naked eye all looked straight and good, and quick harborfreight micrometer showed they were all about 96.8mm long
**this pump was originally rebuilt by DFIS and installed on my mk1 rabbit around 2011. drove 13k on it, well maintained w/5micron fuel filter, when i swapped out for 11mm. i then installed it on my mk3. car sat for a few years. about 4 months ago (fall 2020) the head seal was leaking, i attempted to changed it myself with it on the car which i think went OK (used instructions as found on the club) but could not get the car to start. however, i believe i just didn't prime it enough and it had air trapped in it. since i had an 11mm ready to go, i decided to stop futzing and upgrade. it's been sitting in a sealed bag since.
