Cluster issue

Lcd displays blank with just a few straight lines at top of the display
Speedo and tack work, fuel and temp work. Car was indoors for repairs
With battery out the last few days. Outside last night -3 this morning
Cluster was good last night. Where to start? Same car running or off .

I think after it warms up with power on it will come back on. Seen it before with lcd screens.

Yeh I've got a brand new vdo screen in mine and it went a bit funky after the battery was out this winter, occasionally it still goes blank when I first jump in but usually sorts itself out quite quick after the car is running.

Drove 40 miles to work stayed the same. Parked car for day
Came back about 4:30 pm and cluster is normal now. Go figure.

did you see the Wheeler Dealers' Audi TT episode? They brought the "binnacle" to a place that changed the LCD for 100GBP. what a deal!

Yeh can get it done for cheaper too using a genuine VDO screen, I just bought the screen for £60 UK and did it myself. I think the voltage regulator circuit is a bit funky though but that's beyond me

Summer Gremlins

What about when this happens in the summer at 90+F and Balt/DC swamp weather?
The display just did this on my daughter's MKIV and after checking all of the fuses and performing a "hard reset", still there.
I am suspecting water on a connection somewhere! But where?

Didn't come back the next day. I removed the battery for 15 minutes and it came back just fine.
