The glow plug itself will block shavings from going down while you drill it out. Once you remove the stuck plug you can insert a wad of toilet paper or cotton ball while you either clean up the threads or time-sert.

I’m in Paris for a couple of weeks and there’s plenty of tdi vw and Audi running around. I don’t have any anymore but I was always interested in these we don’t get in the US. I also have some touran tdi pics but they are too big to load IMG_8617.jpegIMG_8704.jpeg

Yes I loaded the wrong picture 😂. I was trying to put the Polo and touran tdi but I grabbed the wrong one. I will delete the Audi. Thanks for noticing.

ohh this polo is my favorite, i had this in 1.2 petrol for a first car :D it's pretty scary they came with pd130/pd150 :D sadly, the most common TDIs in this body are the 3 cylinder 1.4 PDs and not the fun ones :D

I always though VW should bring the Polo over as a beetle replacement. Something to offer towards to the bottom of the $$ chain. It would have been a good option against the Civic class, but then again, I'm only the consumer with money to burn.

The original new Beetle was going to be built on the Polo platform, but I'm guessing it was easier to federalize the Golf platform.

'05 Passat Variant, Still miss the 03JW
05 Passat wagon 340k, still driven daily, and with regular service, the original AT performs just fine. My local guru, KCTDI has been a prince. This car still puts a smile on my face. Major weak spot, besides cam and balance shaft module, is the door locks. I have replaced driver's door lock 3 times other 3 doors once each, and rear hatch once.

Sadly, no. I moved to Nicaragua 11 years ago and kept my Mk5 Jetta for my 1-2 month visits a year, driving it 3 or 4000 miles each month traveling around. Then I moved to India where I decided the second day that I won't drive again. It really is that crazy here on the roads. Gave my TDI to my son but he later sold it. I see maybe 1 or 2 TDIs a month here and get swept up in a wave of nostalgia. I had said my Jetta would be my last car but I didn't expect to be done at 70.

I just sold the '03 Beetle my daughter had for 13 years, she needed something bigger and I didn't need another car. It had a lot of cosmetic issues, but no rust and still ran and drove well. The most amazing thing, according to this forum, is that the original O1M transmission still worked perfectly with over 270k miles!

Noob-tl, I did maintenance on an 01 Automatic New Beetle TDI for a friend. The car belonged to his daughter. She was working and taking college courses at night. She was driving it about 35k miles per year.

Anyway, seems it had close to 110k miles on it when she purchased it. Somewhere around 150k miles, I did a TB job on it which was likely the first time it had been changed. Then, around 275k miles I did another Timing Belt job. I asked him about the transmission fluid.. if it had every been changed. He had no clue. So, I changed it. She traded it off at around 340k miles if I remember correctly. He told me not long ago the guy that bought was still driving it with no problems.

So, yes, I believe your success story with the NB automatic transmission.

Our youngest is currently driving the JSW while their old beater is in the garage getting the starter worked on. Should have it back soon but have to get the roof liner fixed. Our diesel garage will soon be growing as we have decided to purchase a Winnebago Ekko with the Sprinter engine. So we will soon be back up to 3 diesels.

Andy, It always amazes me how some people will make sure they change their oil on time every time, but neglect other fluids such as ATF, brake, and PS. I don't find it particularly hard to do on the O1M, especially since it has a drain plug. Mine did get a complete ATF change (and diff fluid too, it's separate from the ATF) at 198K when I had to replace a perfectly good torque converter due to the starter gear being all chewed up.
