Generally Harsher ride, speedometer/odometer imbalance, costlier tires, lower profile can have higher tendency to sell destroy on rough roads.

If you get the right size tires speedo will be accurate. I have a co-worker with a Jetta with 19s on it and they ride remarkably well. However, I wouldn't do it. FE will suffer for sure.

I have 19" rims and tires on my 2014 Sportwagen and lowered it with H&R sport springs. I have zero rubbing with a 235/30/19 tire on them . Ride is a little bit tougher, maybe a 20% increase in that roughness. I am very pleased with how they look and ride. My speedo is off about 1.5 mph per GPS, I have only lost about 1-2mpg compared to my factory 16" wheels. So I get 42-43mpg instead of 44mpg with my DSG equipped car, no big deal for me as it is still fantastic fuel mileage.
