My 2017 VW Jetta (5M) OM calls for a spark plug change every 40,000. OEM plugs - IIRC - are DOUBLE platinum.
I note that all kinds of double platinum plugs are showing a much greater change interval.

Why does VW show a much lower (40,000) change interval.

My car is not tuned.

I show no MPG drop - car starts easily - no high (or low) speed missing.

Comments?

There are just too many to list....
Lots of newer cars have lower intervals now, as they finally realized the chronic ignition coil failures are caused by these giant gaps worn in the spark plugs. Not only that, but on a lot of the newer VAG engines, the coils themselves will melt themselves on to the plug, so you really don't want to skip this.

It is called "preventive" maintenance for a reason.

And those are not double platinum, they are double iridium. ;)

The factory reccomended VW Jetta 1.4L spark plug change interval increases on the newer Jetta models.

IIRC - beginning with the 2016 1.4L - all the 1.4L engines use the same double platinum spark plugs..................

Yet the earlier 1.4L Jettas call for 40,000 mile plug replacement - - - - while later 1.4L jetta models have
extended change intervals: 60,000 for the 2019 - and 80,000 for the 2021 Jetta 1.4L's IIRC...........

sign me clueless,

Additional research would seem to indicate that the later model VW Jetta 1.4L EA211 4 cylinder has iridium spark plugs - which last much longer.

It's all good!!
