rare bird there. Side skirts should go ;) other than that, I love this era of VW's madness. Thank you Piech
One side skirt is already gone, the other one will be gone soon...

Most of those have already died. One of the four chain drives fail, and VAG doesn't sell parts for them south of the head gaskets. It would seem their main purpose was to provide a place for a transplant TDI. They even sold a few manuals (6sp) here. That was such an odd engine, and along with the equally odd and fragile W12, wasn't sold in great numbers. Neat car, though. $45k B5!

Yeah, I had seen that. I traded straight across for my BEW jetta that I had maybe $1000 in, so I am not in too much.
I decided that if it has any major engine issues that come up, it'll get a TDI swap.

There is a lot of stuff on those cars that is W8-specific, that not even the most tarted up GLX V6 4Mo car could have gotten. I'm not sure they were ever worth the jump in MSRP, though. Especially given the Audis that got either a biturbo V6 or a V8 stuffed under the same hood, either of which proved more durable. But Volkswagen wanted some exclusivity I suppose. There was one on the transport with my 2004 TDI sedan, along with a 1.8t GLS... the last three 2004 B5s delivered to that dealer. And that was THE last W8 car they got. I distinctly remember it was a whole Golf's worth of money MORE than my fully loaded TDI sedan!

Today I started the tear down of the engine from my parts passat. It had zero oil pressure. Turbo was SHOT

Surprisingly the cam and lifters had very little wear! I didn't get a photo, but the cam had chamfer all the way around the lobes and the lifters (still shiny topped oem VW lifters) only had the normal wear patterns. The cam bearings were wearing, but I'm not surprised at that.
I pulled the head and did a port and polish job, redoing it for one of my other Passats which has a leaking head gasket and worn colt cam.

Got mufflers on my w8 passat today as the previous owner had straight piped it and it wouldn't pass inspection.

Did some work on my Stonehenge grey passat over the weekend. The headgasket was leaking and the camshaft was worn. I rebuilt the head from my parts passat and put it on, and I really wanted to put a Franko6 cam, but just couldn't afford it right now as I'm trying to pay my house off.
But I did a light port and polish and redid the valves and installed an oem cam. It had a Colt cam from one of their first batches and it had several worn lobes. The 200k mile cam and lifters from the parts engine which had a BSM failure looked better than it. I understand Colt has gotten better since then though.

Then after I got home, I had to take a photo of the cousins talking together... hopefully the other ones don't get jealous and want to get attention too... oh, yeah, they already do need attention. One needs a transmission (manual swap!) The other one (w8) needs the oem maf sensor I just got for it, as well as the other wheels
I have waiting for it.

That is epic: Pay off your mortgage, or buy a Franko6 cam. We are with you brother, got to be one of TDI Club's toughest decisions I've seen yet.

Fun little project... I had a w8 grille badge and a set of TDI letters from a mk3 Jetta. I painted the letters red and glued them to a piece of ABS plastic and then glued that to the w8 grille bracket and then put it on my passat.
Yeah, pd150 plus (RC2 tune)

Well, I found a really good deal on some Mahle BV43 turbos. Got two coming... we'll see which one gets it, if not both.

.................. I pulled out a set of bilstein b6 shocks that are actually pull offs from a motor home. I had modified them for my mk4 golf, but they were too stiff, they work pretty well for the passat wagon, especially since I use it for towing, which actually was the reason for getting all this done.....................
so what are these B6 shocks you are using? vw passat B6 2006 - but only the back right? the fronts on the b6 are struts way different than a b5.5

In this case bilstein has their shock models, b4, b6, b8, etc. Those ones were from a motor home. They were removed because the rear ones were rusted and the customer opted to go with koni double action shocks instead.

Welp... did it again..saved another b5.5 passat wagon. This one a 1.8t 5 speed with a leaky water pump. Got it for scrap price. Going to fix it up and figure out whether it'll be my daily driver or what.

You have to just rent it for a different vehicle. This uhaul place didn't even do an inspection before letting it go..could have been because it was almost 5:00.

When I get a lift, I’ll be saving more VWs for sure. Tired of doing stuff on jackstands.
When I got to be 70 I was tired of crauling around under cars. Faced with my tranny conversion I built a lift. Love it.

Confessions of a Passataholic... I have another one.
Saved it from being parted out or junked. It just needed some cleaning up, a battery and a timing belt kit as the water pump was leaking.
It's a 1.8t 5 speed front wheel drive with 173k miles.

Yesterday's fun. Put come c5 allroad seats into my wife's passat wagon. They should have come with these from the factory! Surprisingly easy to install, though finding the information on which wires to hook up where.
It did give me a good opportunity to clean all the crackers, happy meal bits and coins that like to make their way down under the seats...
Yeah, that's dad life.

Its been a bit now, I traded my one wagon in on a Q7 TDI for my wife, and daily drove the 1.8t wagon for a while. The blue one sits waiting in time for me to install a manual transmission in it. Now I got its big brother, a 2004 VW Touareg V10 TDI for my daily driver and have put the 1.8t passat up for sale. I've done a bunch of fixing up on it through this past year, including b5 tailights, all the engine covers, wheels, which I got from a B6 A4 and installed general grabber tires on.

Yesterday though I decided to change it up a bit and installed a set of VW Heritage wheels I had sitting around, and it changed the whole look...

Also installed a NOS leather shifter boot I got from Ebay and started a deep interior clean.

And here is a sibling photo...

Passataholic  that’s a good one! Good looking Wagons. Those heritage wheels give it a unique look.
