Would a 02T 5th Gear Set Work in a 02A?

I cannot seem to find much info, or do not know where to look, on the 02T 5 speed transmission.

I have been scouring all corners of the web looking for a 0.681 5th gear set (02D 311 158 & 02D 311 361) which are now NLA from VW, and I came across the following gear set:

02T.311.158.BA (52 teeth)
02T.311.361.AB (35 teeth)

That would make it a 0.673 ratio, taller than 0.681, but not as tall as 0.658.

I am guessing these gears would not work in a 02A / 02J transmission, or there would already be vendors selling them... I did find that ECS Tuning had them listed but info was sparse. Can anyone tell me for certain that these gears won't work?

No, absolutely will not. Different architecture, VW also refers to the 02T as an MQ200 gearbox. Splines and shafts on 02Ts are smaller than MQ250 02A/02J/0A4/02S/02R/02Z boxes.

Cascade German is having a manufacturer repop 0.681 gearsets for MQ250 like your 02A, but aren't expecting them until October-November timeframe.

I figured that would be the case with the 02T, would be too good to be true if they did actually fit.

That is excellent news! I am not in a huge rush to do a 5th gear swap, so I will wait to see how those gear sets shape up. Is there a wait-list or mailing list I can join to keep up on it?
