• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

Successful swap

Have successfully completed and installed Sirius for XM with gbb0131.

Thanks to all who were interested.

He was the first to contact me.

I had XM he had Sirius. Both of us have had no issues with thew swap or installation. I am now happy with my "New" Sirius and he is happy with his "New" XM.

There is no reason the dealership CAN'T do it. But I suspect most WON'T because they don't stand to gain anything by it. You might be able to talk a dealership into it if you tell them you will only buy the car with XM, but that is assuming they still have some XM units on the lot (I'd bet money that they do).

The warranty issue is almost surely true if you swap with a private party, but if the dealer does it, it's up to them whether they want to honor it or not. My guess is most would use that as an excuse to NOT repair your XM box if something goes wrong, so either way you're taking a chance. But in my experience, most auto electronics without moving parts that don't generate a lot of heat last a long, long time. When was the last time you heard about a radio failing? It's always the CD/DVD/Cassette/CD Changer/AMP/Speakers or what-have-you, and the problem is almost always mechanical or heat related. A satellite radio box shouldn't suffer from these problems.

My dealer was very skittish about the whole thing. But that's the salespeople. In 2 weeks I go in for my oil change, and I'll have a chat with the service folks :)

Get A Black Box

Jetta TDI - have the XM with the 0080 software, just a week old. I'm in the Seattle area, but willing to ship etc.

Thx,

You can buy a black box for close to 100 dollars from knowledge so you can switch the frequency from xm to sirius, or vice versa. Not sure where to buy, but supposedly it's out there.

I'd be curious if this actually exists. The usual solution would be to just install both boxes which retail for $300 ea.

Before I swap... I take it that the two satellite tuners work with any '06 Jetta (MKIV) head unit whether it's Pack 1, 2, navi etc -- as long as the part numbers are these?

Sirius = 8E0 035 593D
XM = 8E0 035 593E

Thanks in advance!

Finally found how to remove Sat box

Ok, I finally figured out how to remove the sat box in the trunk. I tried to cut a slot in the end of the bolt with a dremel..didn't work for me. I tried the vise-grips without messing up the threads...didn't work for me. Went to home-depot and bought a bag of 4 'acorn' nuts size 10-32, but the nut was too deep for the factory threads. I used my dremel and cut a #8 bolt down to about 1/4 inch and dropped into the acorn nut...short enough to leave the threads exposed but long enough not to fall over in the 'bowl' of the acorn nut. Perfect. I used a nut driver to tighten up the nut till it bottomed out and began to back out the factory bolt enough to loosen the clips and slide the box over for the factory bolts to drop out of the keyhole slots in the deck. And, the acorn nut is tight enough to tighten the bolts back down and then can be removed. Slick! I suppose if someone wanted to leave the acorn nuts they can use a seize compound (loctite) on them.

I am in the "have sirius but looking for XM" camp as well. The dealership is swapping out my sirius unit because of a NO SAT RADIO issue so I asked if they would just install XM - of course the answer was no. The dealership would only do this if I bought the XM unit for $480. Craziness! I have a brand new sirius unit if any xm'ers want to trade.

$480?!?!? I think those suckers retail for $300. Don't forget to check www.oempl.us - trade will cost you $50, whole unit for $300.

I will join the discussion here but I have not checked out any part numbers or software versions as of yet.....

I have an XM tuner in my 2006 Passat that I got on 10/25/06 have not activated the "free" XM nor want to.

I have a prepaid Sirius sub for another year so the short story is I want to swap a Volkswagen XM for a Sirius Tuner. I have no clue if the particular car has anything to do with it, I would think not buy who knows, the dealership was clueless.

Anyone interested can post or PM me or just email me at tafkam@tafkam.com. Not looking to make any money just a straight swap so we can both benifit.

Thanks
Mike

The main reason I got Sirius a year or so ago was BECAUSE of Howard...to each their own I suppose...regardless, I love sat. radio.

Well a follow up to my previous post, I just noticed that in the 06 Passat the sat tuner is NOT in the trunk mounted to the upper area as is in the Jetta. I know it is there somewhere I just have to start looking. Anyone know off hand where they are located in the Passat? I have not had time to look. Hopefully they are easier to get out than what I have read abouit the Jetta
