In these parts we call that "Mark and Pray" and it's generally seen as a very poor way to approach the job, with disastrous results if it goes wrong. :)

There are no timing marks... specific jigs are needed to lock the crank and cam at TDC. In my sig is a really good step-by-step (you want the BEW version) that will show you exactly what tools are required and how to do the job thoroughly and safely.

The blue link under his signature that says “BEW timing belt procedure”.

Yup, the engine in your car is the "BEW" design, so the "BEW timing belt procedure" listed under my name at the bottom of this post is the correct procedure for you to change your timing belt.

Hmmm.... weird that you don't see this text below my posts:

In any event, new forum and stuff is still being worked on.

Here's another way to find the BEW Timing Belt procedure:

1) click on the "Resources" tab at the top of the forum
2) the second resource down is the "BEW Timing Belt procedure"... click on it
3) on the screen that follows, upper right, you'll see a yellow "Download" button. Click on the button to download the pdf.
