Steering Wheel Swap issues

I just switched my steering wheel to one with paddles. The thing is the steering wheel also has the capabilities for Active Cruise Control, which my car does not have. It does have some other codes, and the Steering Wheel Module on VCDS won't open. Currently, everything works except for the Cruise Control, and the glow plug light is flashing. Currently, no other trouble lights are on, and the car is driving fine. The other thing is the fuel mileage is reading low, which I am assuming is due to the ecu error (flashing glow plug light). I am trying to see, if there is a way in VCDS to fix this issue. Below is what I am getting with Autoscan.

I am still looking on getting help on this situation. The steering wheel I have with the paddles, looks like the TDI wheel. When it comes to the differences, it has the ACC button where my old wheel is blank. Here is an image of the new wheel: Steering Wheel Image

that is not a complete autoscan.

please post 2 autoscans using the code function, one scan with the old wheel, and another scan with the new wheel.

you should be able to just copy the coding from the old wheel to the new one, which would nullify the ACC button until you code it back on when the rest of the retrofit is complete.

this error tells you the new wheel isnt coded correctly compared to the other modules in the vehicle (ECU, ABS, etc):

ACC buttons won't work with "normal" cruise control. With both wheels off, it's pretty easy to swap buttons from one steering wheel to the other one. Three T10 (or maybe T8?) screws and they pop right off. I'd probably move both (left and right) over (along with the ribbon cable between them) just to keep as much the same as possible between the steering wheels.

From personal experience, glow plug, light and ECU error are exactly what happens when you have the wrong cruise control buttons.

Yes that is pretty much what happens to me. The glow plug sign starts flashing, and my mpg plummets.
I don't remember it having any effect on the cars calculated mpg. I also didn't drive with the error for more than a couple days. I'm not sure why it would affect MPG though, there's not a mechanical problem. It's just incorrect coding, it's not even really an electrical problem.

Yeah I am just trying to figure out how to recode it, so that the code will go away. I noticed that 16 - Steering Wheel is not available when I use VCDS.

I tried to switch them over, but the assembly (from old wheel) is too big for the slot on the new wheel.

Do you have a full scan? I've never run VCDS with the steering wheel removed but module 16 is actually the clockspring which doesn't have to come off to replace the steering wheel. If you only replaced the steering wheel with one that has paddles the only thing that needs VCDS (or OBD11) is an adaptation in Module 19 gateway that says something about tiptronic switches installed. Lots of cars, already have this set to active because there's no negative to having it set.

I tried to switch them over, but the assembly (from old wheel) is too big for the slot on the new wheel.
I'm confused about this. If the wheels are the same shape the buttons should swap over. There's only the Golf/Standard wheel and the GTI/R version (round airbag).

I think both @Cuzoe and I (at least I was) are/were assuming you're on a Mk7 car, but your info says 2015 Jetta, so....that's a Mk6 (?).

In which case....I don't have a lot to offer; no experience with those steering wheels.
Maybe post photos of what you have and what you want to install, and we can take a swing (?)

Those look exactly like the Mk7 steering wheels, in which case you should be able to swap the buttons from your current wheel to the new one, and have cruise control working.

Yeah with my stock one I can see the 16 - Steering Wheel on VCDS, but don't see it with the new one connected. So I don't know how to code out the adaptive cruise control, to the regular cruise control to what I have in my car. This is the main problem I am seeing.

In that case, sounds like you've got incompatible steering wheels. I just went through the same thing with changing buttons on my Mk8 steering wheel.

Your new one has an unusual airbag retention system as well (all of my Mk7 and Mk8 wheels have had two "hooks" that catch wire "spring" arms - yours has three spring-loaded posts, it looks like(?)). And this one has heat (connector with red lock-tab). Does your clockspring have the connector for heat?

What part number is on that steering wheel? Is it similar to your original? Like, do the first three characters have the same letter? Like both are 5Gx or 5Qx, or 1Kx, 5Kx. If you've got something with a K - that's 6th gen stuff; the G and Q are more typically the MQB (mk7 and later). And what about your clockspring - what's the letter in its first triplet of the part number?

If they don't align. you have two quite different parts trying to talk to each other.

In any event, like I mentioned above, you're playing in Mk6-land (even though the wheels LOOK a lot like the stock Mk7)...and thus, way outside my knowledge / comfort zone. Google about, my friend. Try Vortex, golfmk6.com, or even here in the Mk6 sub-forum (although i don't recall seeing a etc - see if any of those folks have something similar.

You might needs to swap the steering wheel control module, I had to do it for my brothers 06 Jetta TDI to have Multi function steering wheel controls to work.
