Riding hard - any ideas?

Our 02 Jetta has been riding very harsh for the last year. Over bumps, it's terrible, like a bang noise especially in the rear - like it has no suspension. Worse when it's loaded. I replaced the shocks and mounts, and that helped a little, but it's not the ride it once was. Any ideas? Bushings?

could be your rear AXLE bushings....what is the mileage on the car???
mine was doing the same, and when i replaced my bushings (kind of a pain in the ass since you have to drop the whole axle, but can be done) they were both shot to hell....after 140K miles.

It's pushing 163K. Is there a tech write up on it?
