Rack & Pinion wear

At 130k miles, I guess I'm up for a new rack & pinion.
With the wheel(s) off the ground, there is too much left-right play and thumping going on. Maybe 1/4" deflection or more. Tie rods look ok.

Comments welcome. I really don't feel like buying this. Bentleys says unit is not serviceable.

Well you do have inner and outer tie rod ends and the inners are pretty hard to evaluate. So it is entirely possible all you need to do is replace the inner tie rod ends. Of course the good news is that you'll have the steering rack out when you get to the inner tie rod ends so it will be no extra work if I'm wrong. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
