Question regarding shifting an automatic

Ok, I've been reading some of the posts regarding when to shift a 5 speed, and hearing about Italian tune ups (revving to 4k rpms). Would it be bad for my automatic tranny to start in 1st, get up to 4k rpms, then shift to 2nd, 3rd, then drive, getting up to at least 3500rpms each gear? I want to make sure its gets cleaned out, and would only do this once every couple weeks or so. I did this today, and accelerated MUCH better on the freeway onramp. So, again I ask, is this bad for the tranny?

Not great for the tranny, but okay for the engine...I'd probably do it, or pulling some rolling 1/4 onramp runs. All in all, the benefit to the engine probably will outweigh the detriment to the tranny. At the very least, you can do an auto to 6speed manual swap when your tranny flops at 100k.
