How would one program a new or used steering module without old coding due to old module not communicating? 2006(built in 2005) Jetta BRM with dsg.

Just Brake info there.Did a search and looks like since I don't have a latest greatest vcds,programming will be a crap shoot,which I don't do when it's a customers car.I use Launch which is excellent ( I work on many car lines) ,but not as in depth with vag,as far as I can tell.If I could just get the coding off the old one or find it somewhere else,I'd take a chance on getting the parts,but I think the dealer might have to look at it.
