I'm a design engineer and work with a lot of CAD design software (solid modeling, FEA, fluid flow....etc). I am going to be working on a project soon to make some new floor mats for my 99 MKIV Jetta out of Aluminium diamond plate (I'll post a pic of my idea if I find it again).

I'll be using my resources though (CAD software) to design the sheetmetal pattern of these floormats, and will post the plans for them once I'm done.

I wonder though if anyone else would want to make a list of the kind of stuff you normally work with, or have skills in? Sort of like the nationwide user help service that another member is looking into starting. We could know who does what and see if they could help with a certain problem. Anyone see the relay 109 pics from the guy with the scanning electron microscope? I'm talking about stuff like that.

If there was a special part we needed to make (gauge pods, air filter ducting.... etc) I coul dhelp design it. If we need a scanning electron microscope pic of something, I think we know who to ask. We should really make use of our resources, I bet we have some really unique stuff available to us as a group.

not immediately useful to the group, but it still had to be stated.

I'm pretty sure this has been around before, but I'll jump and refresh the collective memory.

I'm a GIS analyst, working for an international NGO in DC. I take data and use a spatial factor (ie lat/long) to display it graphically on maps. Not much help with TDI's, but I'll never get lost going to a GTG.

World Wide Web jack of all trades, freelance. My main client for the last 4 years has been the biggest ski resort in the east, but I've recently fired them. Still working for the ski industry as about 40% of my client load.I'm struggling a bit to keep up with my work load. If not for tdiclub.com it might even be possible to catch up and not have to work evenings...

Not very useful for pooling resources!

I'm a Mechanical Engineer with CAD experience, as well as automotive and pharmaceutical experience. BTW, I am looking for a job with an automotive tuner as a design/R&D engineer, in case anyone knows of any openings. Thanks!

Funny that you mention it, wolfsburg_de. I'm a design engineer working at an engine development company... not a tuner per sé but when one can get one's foot into such an awesome career opportunity, one shouldn't grapple with details

Work daily with 3 solid modeling packages at the moment: Unigraphics, I-DEAS and PRO/Engineer. Also actively involved in researching various subjects in engine technology, particularly Diesel-related stuff and emissions. My forté is not actually design but thermodynamics.

environmental and administrative lawyer, working for the big evil corporate guys (did someone already mention the joys of supporting a family?
) i plan to use these resources behind the scenes to help my clients convince the gov't that ulsd is a good thing, and to convince the clients that maybe they should get into the bio-diesel, or at least the blended bio/petro-diesel, market. useful to all of y'all, though not directly.

None currently
I used to be a real estate lawyer, then I moved into telecom, as a consultant rather than a lawyer.

I'm interviewing for a new job on Monday, in Philly (my wife's home town) (shhh--don't tell anyone)

Wish me luck!

I practiced public accounting for awhile--mostly tax, but a little audit, review and write-up work. Then I practiced law for a while (mostly representing CPAs). Now I develop tax software, but I'm getting restless again. I think I might try personal financial planning next, emphasizing college financial planning.

Project Manager for utility consulting firm. My specialty is digital map production (Geographic Information Systems). We help utilities automate their work management and design systems.

I could make you a kickass map showing how to get to that guys house who has the Relay 109 microscope pics
Or better yet, I could make a killer spreadsheet that shows all the tasks that have to be done to make the map, and how many resources are needed to accomplish the tasks. That's what I really do as a spreadsheet jockey.

I am a Product Marketing/Strategy guy. I have worked for large athletic shoe companies and now work for a small, family-owned company in the bicycle industry. I did study industrial design as an undergrad, and although rusty, I still can think like a designer at times (I am not sure if that's good or bad.....).

Good luck in Philly Rob, my brother moved there a little over a year ago. Great city.

Mechanical Engineer by degree. Played in medical ultrasound for my first nine years after leaving school. Complete change of career ten years ago and now own a financial planning practice and help make the "average guy" wealthy.

Far too intrigued with cars (diesels of course), motorcycles (BMW specifically 'cause they are sort of diesel-like) and things mechanical.
