Greetings,

I need some advice on the source of an oil leak found during an oil change.
The area around the injectors has oil on it.
The "gallery" where the bolts are have oil in then.
Oil is running down the rear of the engine/turbo.

Ideas? Cracked valve cover? Loose bolts?

My first guess would be a sloppy oil fill

does the oil level change in between oil changes?

Not having a garage I haven't wanted to work on it in the cold and wind. Probably will know by next weekend.

Make sure the bolts for the 4 injector plates are tight. Those plates act as the seals for the top of the valve cover.

That is the very issue I am having addressed with my VW tech.
It is both the valve cover seal and the injector seals. Both I am
having replaced. It is not inexpensive at a dealership, but in my case,
I have a very reliable and knowledgeable, through whom I'm having
the work done. My case at South Coast VW at Santa Ana, CA
dealership. My estimation is $700 plus. But, I've been very happy with
my technician, while with his efforts, I continue to get exceptional conditions with my car, after as many miles as I've reached.

I have the same issue with my valve cover. It's leaking from injector #2, which was replaced by VW 50K miles ago. My guess is that they didn't seal it properly. I don't think it leaks enough to do much damage though.

I have found the exact same problem on my Passat 2.0 Tdi Common Rail motor, oil leaks from the hole in the metal were the injector goes, can anyone explain how to fix this, could this be the reason why the motor goes into limp mode above 3500 rpms?
