I mentioned in this thread [http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=140480] that I was writing to Valvoline and Schaeffer to ask about their support for 505.01.

I got a nice letter from Valvoline today. The letter indicated (as they'd told me in a previous email) that they recommended MaxLife Full Synthetic 5W-30 for 505.01 applications, although it does not have formal VW certification. :(

HOWEVER, the letter also indicated that Valvoline is currently "in flight" with VWAG, seeking formal VW 505.01 certification for a new product, SynPower MST 5W-30. They enclosed the data sheet for the SynPower MST product, which indicated that it had ACEA A3/B4-04 and C3-04, MB 229.51, BMW LongLife-04, and VW 502.00 and 505.00, with 505.01 approval pending. Since this letter is coming from Valvoline USA in Lexington, Kentucky, I assume that they intend to market this product in the US.
I don't have easy access to a scanner, but will try to scan the letter and the datasheet in this weekend and post them to this thread.
