I received this email today:

Hi Skyler,

Unfortunately we are not able to make retail sales to the public. We are licensed with the state as a wholesale manufacturer and can only sell to licensed distributors. The distributors are set up to collect the necessary taxes for motor fuel whereas we are not. We are working hard to establish a retail pump on the Island and hope to have one in place by mid summer.

Our distributor T. H. Malloy has B20, B50 and B99 available at their retail pumps in Cumberland, RI (401-333-0665) and Island Energy of Jamestown, RI (401-423-2221) will fill you by appointment with B99.

Please pass the word along to the rest of the TDI' ers.

Best,
Nat

There are no motor fuel taxes on heating oil. I'll get in touch to find if this motor fuel tax situation has an effect on their home heating bio fuel sales.

I ran their b99 for a couple of weeks in my furnace. With some minor adjustments it ran well. If I had a large traveling container (like a barrel on a trailer :)) I'd definitely run my furnace full time on the b99. I burned through the b99 I had and didn't have time to get down there, so I'm back to home heating oil :(.

I just got off the phone with Nat.
ALL retail sales through the Newport production facility are stopped, even heating oil sales. The issue is Newport Biodiesel not being authorised to collect the excise tax on motor fuel. Even though home heating oil is exempt from the excise tax, the chances of fuel sold as heating oil ending up in an on-road vehicle fuel tank is too great.

The good news is that T.H. Malloy's location in Cumberland is closer to my home and avoids the extra time, miles and bridge toll fee.
The bad news is that their markup of Newport Biodiesel's product adds to the per gallon price.

I don't think their mark-up is too bad, considering the good facilities and convenience...I don't know what Newport bio's hours were...

Sunday they are closed, Saturday limited mid-day hours. The exact hours are in the biodiesel in Cumberland thread.

So.....how much is it now?
Which now? Now? or.........NOW!, or how about...nnnnnow!
Thursday morning the price for B100 for road use, (their retail sales are all road tax paid fuel,) is $3.74 a gallon. B20 for road (heating oil is delivery only, not cash&carry) is $3.84.
What is confusing is that Malloy's website indicates that it is soy BD, and I think it is waste BD from Newport Biodiesel.
What? Soy oil can't be used for cooking first?

Island Energy

I just filled up at Island Energy in Jamestown, RI. They will meet you at their yard by appointment, 401-423-2221, and can directly fuel vehicles as well as totes. They also carry up to B50 heating oil.

The price today was $4.29 for B50. In Newport Biodiesel's email at the beginning of this thread, Nat mentioned that Island Energy had B99; right now the only thing available is B50.

I think I've found the perfect balance between D2 (performance) and biodiesel (all the other good reasons). It was a great ride home...

Island Energy shares the same yard with a Land/Range Rover specialist, and there were TWO Land Rover diesels in the lot. Yes, I drooled appropriately.
