The folks at Newport Biodiesel (Newport, RI) have kindly offered to open on a Saturday, give us a tour of the production facility, and sell us some biodiesel.

The date is set for Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 am at Newport Biodiesel, 312 Connell Highway, Newport, RI 02840. Look for the large yellow Brewers Marine building; it's in the back. Their website is www.newportbiodiesel.com.

Newport Biodiesel can't fuel vehicles directly, so bring your Blitz containers. Also, at this time they only accept either cash or checks.

If you're interested, please reply to post or PM me, so we have a rough idea how many might be there. If you decide at the last minute, that's fine too of course.

Which pricing segment will be in effect for that day's event?
B99 picked up on site for home heating use is lower in price than
B99 picked up on site for off-road use, which is in turn lower than
B99 picked up on site for on-road use.

What are the differences
and which will we be sold that day?

PS: Cross Posting is not considered to be polite.

Actually, I don't know the prices. Also, I apologize for cross-posting, but figured some people may see one and not the other.

Yes, they are normally open only during the week, but I if you call them they'll sell on Saturdays. I haven't been there yet, but a friend with a Libby CRD has bought on a Saturday.

They will definitely be open April 5 for us and sundry.

Pricing info:
But WHICH price?
Can I buy home heating oil, or fuel for my tractor? How will they know what the intent is?
If they can't pump into the vehicles, why have an "on-road" price?

I'm guessing that untaxed biodiesel is dyed.

What I don't understand is the difference between B99 for off road vs. Home heating use and why off-road is 35 cents more than home heating?

Lacking any information from the thread initiator, I called Newport Biodiesel myself to find out the reason for the different prices. It has to do with the tax.
Home heating oil does not have the excise tax applied that off-road fuel does.
On road use fuel has the federal fuel tax applied.
I didn't think to ask if the RI state sales tax applies to Home heating oil. I know that Maine does apply state sales tax if there is no federal or state road use tax.
I suspect that by not pumping directly into the vehicles that the RI road use fuel tax is avoided.

I'm planning to buy 50 gallons of b100 heating oil which will make a 20% mix when added to 200 gallons of fuel oil in my home's tank.

As I mentioned before, I wasn't sure of the pricing, or its basis. I did give a link to the website, which has a pricing page. I don't work there; just thought it'd be nice to have a tour for us!

I know the volume of fuel I'll buy.
Now I also know which of the three rates I'll be paying.

I'm having no luck getting to their web site to check the current price structure.
I'm presuming they are expecting at least a few people on Saturday morning?

My wife and I will come by. We're still shopping for a TDI, but it'll be fun to see a few and take a look at the biodiesel operation.

The site is accessible to me too now, but the pricing shown is last week's, 3/24/08.
I'll give them a phone call today.

Yes, they're expecting some people. I said I didn't know how many, but that it's pretty certain it'll worth their while.

Prices shown on their site for the week of 3/24 are confirmed to be valid this week also. We are expected around 11 am.
