Friends - 2006 Jetta TDI BRM, 220,000 miles, 5 speed Manual - Issue engine wind noise up to 2200 RPM and then quiets down and noticable jump in engine power. No Check Engine Light. I'm not an expert on turbo diesels but heard of the term waste gate. Could my waste gate be exhausting air until engine hits 2200 rpm and then slamming shut? Recent cam and timing belt change. I don't remember this annoying sound previously. If you have a VAG COM and ever had it cycle through all the engine tests that is the only time I've heard this sound previously. How about EGR? Could that be sticking open? Upon idling in neutral sometime if I quickly step on the gas it will quiet down as well.
