NB rear liscense plate bulb access?

How do I remove the bulb and replace it on a New Beetle for the rear tag? I have one that is burnt out and I don't want to mess up the paint by trying to pry it out? I don't have a service manual (yet) but I bet it is fairly simple...

If you look closely at the top of each license plate lense cover you will see a retaining tab. The Bentley manual says to carefully pry out the lense with a "suitable" tool until the retaining tab releases. Once the lense is free, disconnect the harness connector. Turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull out of the housing to remove the bulb.
