Would help to know what turbo you actually have. The smallest compressor in that family that I know of has 42mm inducer and the largest is around 5mm more.
the turbo i have is the one i stated, gt2559v of the renault espace 3.0dci, acording to a company called turbo solutions, this turbo has a 60mm compressor wheel, not sure if thats totally accurate but i guess it wont be too far off
I have the same turbocharger off the renault scenic 3.0dCI and compared with a BV50 there is not much difference in the compressor wheels but the compressor housing is much much bigger on the Garrett. I also have a friend with the GTB2260vk and as i said there is not much difference between them 3 turbochargers. The gt2559v looks like it could have a bigger compressor fitted as there's a lot of meat left on the housing but what wheel to fit ? Also, is there anyone who could balance s the turbo afterwards ?
I know that phisical size isnt everything but from people in the know the gt2559v spools a little later but there is not much difference in the top end compared with the gtb2260... To be honest the gt2559 is more suited to bigger engines (2.5 tdi minimum) as the 1.9 does not generate enough airflow to get it spooling quick enough. Compared with the BV50 there isnt much difference but as you said, with the right tune the gtb2260 is the best turbo there is.
i don't know about the 3.0 tdi collector, the problem is that you have to modify the colector make it like 3-4cm taller, unless you wanna bend fuel pipes =)
