Why would you want to? Go ahead and do it. It is obvious the engineers at VW just put it there tomake your car slower and less fuel efficient.

technically removing the cover is a violation of noise emissions and air emissions laws.. the cover helps keep the noise down so safe levels for pedestians and others outside the car and it also helps keep the engine at temp when very cold...

like thats a problem in texas...

the noise cops are chasing all the getto blasting kids,, and its never cold.. so go figure..

To remove the top engine cover:

You will see three small plastic caps on top of the cover, they're about the size of a quarter. Gently pry these off with a small flat-bladed screwdriver (they have slots on their edges where the tip of the screwdriver can fit in). Underneath each is a 10mm nut on a short stud. Remove these nuts (easiest with a 10mm socket) and you can lift the cover off.
