Headlamp Steel Nut Removal

Anyone know the correct way to get the large plastic hex nuts that go through the steel above the headlamps out? I need to refinish the steel and the plastic parts really won't like the media blast or powder coat oven. I have tried moderate force but they just seem to be deforming.

I usally remove the 4 bolts that hold the bracket down, then the two screws on the headlight adjustment, and pull the bracket up if one or both of those adjustments were stuck.

That isn't what I am asking. I need to remove the plastic nuts from the metal so it can be refinished.

So, discovered the answer through the utilisation of butterfingers... They come apart just by pulling on either side... They are not threaded at all.
