Yeah, a former co-worker never changed the oil in is little Dodge 50 Ram after the warranty expired. If I remember correctly, he changed the oil filter a few times and only kept the oil topped off. When he traded it in on a new vehicle, it was smoking pretty bad. Seem it a little over 120k miles on the clock.
As for my brother not changing the fuel filter, it wasn't because he didn't do it to be cheap. He just never gave it any thought. His wife T-boned a Ford Explorer with it which totaled the car. It had 222k miles on it. That engine is in my 03 Jetta with 335k miles on it. So, his neglect never seemed to have harmed anything.
