My beautiful young bride bought a new 2017 Golf Alltrack back in September. She's now getting the "change oil" message on the DIC.

She only has 1800 miles. Does anyone with the 1.8T know if the first oil change is sooner than expected? I recall her 2015 Passat 1.8 went like 6,000 miles before getting the message.

The car knows how old it is.

the interval for service is 10,000 miles or one year.

you can check the maintenance and warranty book that should be next to the owners manual

Yeah, that's why I was asking. The manual says the recommended interval is every 10K or 12 months whichever occurs first.

Reset the interval on the DIC as you call it (your owners manual will tell you how.)and change the oil and do the other 10k maint at that time all will be well. Then when you do the second maint you will have a clean slate to draw on.

Those reminders are kind of lame. I always just reset them on all my cars when they come on because they are rarely correct in regards to when the service is actually due.

It probably is a year since they first fired up the car. (not since you purchased it)

They assume most people drive 10k miles a yr. The oil is synthetic which doesn't deteriorate with time like the regulars oils used in earlier times. You want to get the 10k service on the rest of the car to give it chance to check on issues at that mileage. I will have the same issue since my 2017 was bgt mid summer and stored for the winter for 6 mos. 2500miles on the meter.

I am not so sure all the folks who want to ignore the time are on the right track.

for a new car that sat at a dealer, this could be a bad idea.

I just picked up a 2017. purchased new in November, rolled off the line in June.

had 47 miles, but almost 50 drive cycles on it. (easy to check with VCDS) I am not worried enough to change the oil right away, but will be more inclined to do so late next spring, even if it is not at 10,000 miles.
