You cant create enough suction to test it with your mouth. Also, these pumps will NOT self prime from cranking. Once it air locks, you have to prime the pump and filter with a mitivac or similar, then crack injector lines and bleed out remaining air.

On the ALH you can indeed purge air from the IP by mouth. I use a long piece of clear tube, it's easy. Does take multiple sucks, squeeze the line in between. Done this twice with new, dry pumps.
