I've got a 2003 Jetta Wagon TDI. Have 63,000 miles already. About two weeks ago, my check engine light came on, I had it read at AutoZone, and it came back with a "EGR, in-sufficient flow" error. The next day, the car died on me while driving to work.
I had it towed to my mechanic (not the stealership). He checked out the EGR valve, said it was fine, but that my intake manifold was completely clogged up. He cleaned that out and it's been running good as new since. However, the check engine light came back on about 1 mile after leaving the mechanic's with the same "EGR, insufficient flow" error.
Could this simply be a sensor error? If not, any other ideas what it could be? If it is the sensor, does anyone know how difficult it is to change this yourself. I'm realatively handy but don't want to get in over my head.
