Well my drivers side door stopped latching. And I cant find my Manual which would tell me how to take the door apart. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Has anyone see a post anywhere that shows disassembly of the door past the outside door panel?

Thats as far as I have gotten as well. Im not sure whether the 4 rivets that are on the remaining panel in the door should be drilled out or not

It's your door lock mechanism is all gummed up. Degrease the crap out of it and then, once it's freed up and working, regrease it with lithium grease.

funny - I just spent Sat. night and Sun. morning doing this to the sliding door of a GMC Safari van .. Un-did bolts to lock mechanism from outside - got in door panel,
unhooked rods and electric's - took out lock ...

Jammed all ta hell ...

Soaked it in a bucket of gas ...
Dremeled rust and corrosion off of moving parts ...
WD-40ed the hell out of it ...
Lubed it - put it all back together .. works good.

There were parts and leavers on the lock
that could not be freed up without taking it out of the door.

Not a VW - yes - but sounds like a similar scenario ...

Had problems with my hatch lock and did a little research here, and elsewhere. Seems that using WD-40 on auto locks is a no-no. Recommended lubricant is graphite. Mine was very gummed up, to the point of being seized, and I had used WD-40 liberally. Cleaned up with brake cleaner, then used canned graphite. Lock is much smoother now.

YMMV
