As the subject says. Was thinking to try some. I have searched and searched but haven't been able to find any UOAs for the TDI.

It'll be excellent in any/all of your TDIs listed.

It's a few bucks cheaper per gallon than the Rotella T-6 at WalMart-today was first time I've seen it-it was a little over $19/gallon,compared to $21.36 for T-6.

I also saw Delo 5w40 for the first time today at Maomart. They also had quarts of T6!

Yes indeed. I went to Wally World myself today. They had delo 400LE 5w-40 in gallon jugs for just shy of $20. They were out of T-6 (just shy of $22) and had plenty of M1 TDT for over $26.
Thinking of trying some next oil change in my golf.

So can Bob or too slick rank T6, M1TDT, and Delo 400 LE 5w-40 for preference? Which is most preferred and why for ALH and BEW?

Given that Delo 400 5w40 is not as easily found across the US, it has the least representative usage, I'm only learning about it recently.

I can't really rank them in order, I have not seen the API test results [CJ-4 performance]. Some might barely meet specs, some might exceed the criteria, who knows.

T6 and Delo should have an edge in cold weather. Some significant differences are the flash point and viscosity index.

TDT: 215C
T6: 224C
Delo: 232C

TDT: 153
T6: 169
Delo: 168

This oil used to have a legendary reputation. Might have something to do with the fact that it used to be essentially impossible to purchase.

I contacted my "local" Chevron distributor in an attempt to buy a case about 10 yrs ago. I was going to have to make a 125 miles round trip and pay about $100 for a case of 12 qts. I ultimately decided to pass since there were other viable alternatives at W*mart. Interesting to see that it's gone mainstream. I wonder how long it will last...

I'm not sure how's you go about rank ordering them? I would be interested to see a test of the DELO, since Chevron owns their own additive company. Might be something new there....

I like the Mobil Delvac 1/ESP and the Amsoil DEO, 5w-40 myself. But these are more expensive, PAO/Ester based oils that you have to run further to make cost effective.

Wow. I must have been just stupid lucky. I used Delo for years; could get it at a local oil supplier (along with pretty much anything else I could have asked for) for much less than Delvac synth. Never did a UOA on it because I don't run my oil very hard (changed more on time than mileage) but it seemed to be fine. Only reason I'm not using it now is because the price went up to the point it was cheaper to go with Rotella or Mobil 1 TDT.

Check with Wally World. Delo is cheaper than either T6 or M1.

5w-40 Delo for older mercedes?

So maybe 5w-40 Delo would be a good oil for my 1983 240D mercedes and my 1984 300SD mercedes ? I am now using 0w-40 mobile 1. I liked the 0w-40 mobil 1 because it had excellent cleaning power for engines that had 230,000 miles (240D) and 195,000 (300SD). But, since I change out my oil every 5,000 miles the 5w-40 Delo would work fine. The local shops here in the tucson area said to use a 15w-40 conventional oil and change it every 3,000 miles. But i thought I could go the 5,000 miles like the owners manual said if I used a good synthetic oil. Also, the 240D uses about 1 quart every 1,500 miles anyway so the engine is getting new additives along the way to 5,000 miles anyway. The 300SD has not used any oil that I could tell between changes. The mpg's for the 240D is 33.5-34 pmg's in the winter and 35-37 mpg's in the summer. And the 300Sd was 28.5 in the winter to 31.25 in the summer. Anyway, does anyone have some input for me? Thank You in advance.

Out of TDI's
Just picked up two 4-quart jugs of Delo 5W - 40 at W*Mart this afternoon for $19.99 each. They were out of M1 TDT. Going to run it in my 05.5 BRM next change. Glad to see its carried locally.

I recently stocked up on Del0 5w-40, planning to use it in my old F350 and 2000 Golf TDI. I'm thinking of selling both of these and buying a new TDI JSW.

From a little search and reading, it appears that 5w-40 is no longer an acceptable oil for the TDI (what a shame), now I need 507.00 spec oil, a 5w-30 :(

Bummer.

Why would you sell a truck and car, both paid for, to buy a new car?

Because sometimes it nice to have a new(er) car...and I have two additional 4WDs, can only drive one at a time, and it's only the wife and me.

Any comments on the oil Bob?

Can I run 5w-40 in a new/current JSW TDI? I’d be surprised if the 40wt would hurt the engine, I’d love to see what a new JSW owner’s manual says.

507.00/504.00 is 5w30 only. This oil also has "too much" ash for Euro passenger vehicle DPFs. (VW 507.00, MB 229.51 and BMW LL04)
