Yet another person who does not understand the concept of a settlement, and its voluntary nature. It is a settlement, not an entitlement.

If the $125 was so objectionable, you should have opted out and gone on your merry way.

On the other hand, if you wanted the benefit of the settlement, comply with the requirements to qualify to participate. And don't grouse about it.

Yeah, just like VW has complied with the timeline requirements.
So what you going to do about that? Take your car, go home, and stew?

I had to wait at the grocery store check out the other day. Too many customers.

My point is that people shouldn't get tut-tutted and told they should shut up and comply with the terms of the settlement when VW continues to wantonly violate it. If VW was adhering to the timeline, I'd agree that people should be quiet and opt out if they don't like the timelines. However, that is not the case.

And I doubt the grocery store has a court-mandated timeline for checking out customers and specific penalties for not complying with it.

And my point is, the world is full of situations where time lines are not adhered to. Trains don't run on time, airplanes are late, and roads have traffic jams. Its foolish and a waste of psychic energy to complain and get bent out of shape about the relatively minor inconveniences of life that occur.

I used to live in a state where, to get a permit to buy a target pistol, it could take months to get the permit. The statute said it would take 10 days. The State Police said they did not have enough resources to process the permits in 10 days. The Legislature never gave them the money to do it any faster. So what options did I have? One, wait. Two, forget about the pistol. Three, move to a different state. Ultimately, this was one of dozens of causes, events, and conditions that caused me to move from New Jersey to Vermont where, not only do I need no permits to buy a pistol, I also got a sales tax credit on my turn in TDi against the tax I paid on the replacement vehicle.

You might say, I opted out of the NJ system. But I recognized that complaining about it was useless and just an annoyance to anyone within earshot.

You have to have the patience and serenity to deal with things you cannot change, the initiative to tackle the things you can change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Mine gets turned in Wed. So far no complaints. I put it off to find a replacement and see how it went for others. (luckily I could replace before getting mine bought back, I understand not everyone can).

It's been a great car. No complaints and no hard feelings towards VW. I was kinda getting the itch for something else and VW made it an easy decision for me.

My wife wants an SUV. She has a 2012 Kia Rio with 25,000 miles. My daughter starts driving this year. We will give her that. It should make her a good car for years yet.

In 2.5 years she goes off to college. Most likely Glenville State where her mom went. (Glenville WV). Middle of freaking no where. I want the wife to have an AWD to make the trip back and forth.

I'm getting just over 20k. I bought a 2013 C-Max Energi. $12,900. I'm getting better mpg than the TDI plus I can make it to work on one charge. (trying to get work to provide me a plug in).

The rest will go towards the wife's new SUV. Looking mostly at the new Honda Cr-V.

I turned in my Jetta this morning at D. Patrick VW in Evansville In.
We quit driving it at the end of November and had 108,000 miles on it. I hauled it 85 miles one way to the dealer on my trailer, unloaded it and drove it 100 feet to the front door.
The paperwork process took about 15 minutes. The claims specialist told me they do 8 returns per day, 3 days a week.

Turned in my Jetta Sat. and I'm glad to be done with it. It has been sitting since May(started having issues) and I had been paying $105 a month to keep it insured. Paid 21,000 for it in 2011 when it was a year old and will get almost 16,000 for it. Not bad for driving it for almost 6 years.

No, I understand perfectly. You seem to think because I'm picking the settlement I should just smile and be happy that it creates some inconvenience in my life. That's stupid. Those aren't mutually exclusive, and as a part of my settlement I did not sign away my right to vocalize how I feel. I'll grouse about whatever the **** I want to, fwiw. VW's fraud and subsequent handling of it all is grouse worthy.

Well its over for me. I got d'kd around with paperwork issues for an extra 4 weeks over the high end of their estimated timeline - all because a form number (tiny number in the corner) was partially cut off on my registration copy. The woman on the phone was an a'hole about it too. At that moment I called VW customer care and told them their legal representative cost them a loyal customer. Honestly, they didn't care. Wished me well in my car search. I owned a Subaru two weeks later. Fast forward dropped the car at the dealer at 10:30 last Friday and had the deal done by 10:45. No ambassador worked with me and it took them almost an hour to take my plates off. I had to start yelling in the middle of the showroom for someone to give me a screwdriver before they finally got it taken care of. They kept telling me they were taking it off right then, but I was watching my car and no one did it. Email right away; chase email Monday at 10:45pm; Money in the back at 10am today. I'll miss this forum, but not VW. Good bye and thank you all.

It's complete.

Turned in my Passat around 3:50PM yesterday at Bob Baker VW in Carlsbad, CA. Buyback rep was a gentlemen named Sergio, was very straight forward. I had to ask him how it's been going, if he's had any of the "crazies", he laughed and said he's had two that were kind of going wild, but he just threatened to stop the process due to them being overly aggressive and they shut up. He said it's nothing compared to the San Luis Obispo incident, which was posted here by the perp. He didn't have any pictures, but did tell me that the guy had spray painted "Fcuk VW" "Fcuk You" all over the vehicle. Was out the door with an email receipt by 4:02PM.

And of course when I arrived, they had a Red 2017 Golf R sitting on the show room floor that was just calling my name. :(

No cares here, either. Sounds like a subaru suits you better.

Finally Done

I turned my 2011 Jetta in yesterday at Bobby Beck VW in McKinney, Texas. I was 30 minutes early and they took me right in. The whole thing only took about 10 minutes. The rep was professional and it was seamless. I just filed my transfer notification online (mentioned here on the forum) and am about to cancel the insurance. Hoping the electronic transfer goes just as smoothly. I appreciate all the information that has been posted.

Last day decontenting

Decontenting my TDI of personal items on last day of turning it in at the dealer. It has been a great car to have and drive.

Still waiting. VW has been stalling for months, so if you didn't get your info in by the end of October, that 20-day wait is now '30 days' according to the new recording at the no-help desk, but realistically it is running three to five months. Spoke with the attorneys and apparently, the stall tactic is to get you to have your bank to send the payoff; then VW sits on it until it expires. Then weeks later when you call you are told your payoff is invalid, so you get another one; I'm on number three, and I've made three more payments to boot. My appointment to turn in my car was scheduled before this fiasco, and was to be December 15th; it is now February 18th, they have the new 30-day payoff but still no offer letter. The no-help line should be staffed with robots and those people who have no help nor information should be trained to handle claim processing. We have had five VW products over the years, and this Jetta is the last one, and not because it's not a great car, because it is, but because VW has mishandled these claims so egregiously that I will never purchase another one of their products. as a matter of fact.....already got a Toyota.

Why are you punishing yourself like that? VW's business is cars, not buybacks. I could probably dig up 100 Toyota forum posts of owners who wrote "Never another Toyota!" because of the way they've handled airbag, seatbelt, and gas pedal problems -- problems that have actually killed and injured people.

Seriously, I don't believe there's any intentional "stalling" going on here. VW *has* to want this off their plate. It's not doing them one bit of good to keep you on their books.

It doesn't mean their process isn't slightly broken -- lacking fine tuning, let's say -- or that the the call center isn't a joke, but since Go! in November (just 3 1/2 short months ago) they've processed tens of thousands of returns mostly without drama (weeks long waits, by definition, are not drama).

So 20 days has turned into 10 or 12 weeks for many of us. Clearly not even remotely close, but put it in context. Big whoop. Some posters get so angered by this. It just... IS. Why get angry? Deal. It's not a personal affront.

No, it wasn't. That date was never even a real estimate of when you'd be able to turn in the car, much less an actual scheduled appointment, and the site has always said so (admittedly, more clearly now that at the start, but it's always been there).

As to the rest, yes, you're right--they're taking a lot more time than they should be. That may or may not be deliberate (I personally doubt it, but I can't prove that any more than you can prove that it is).

We just had an outstanding experience with our buyback. Took just a couple minutes and the gal who handled it was super friendly, fast, professional, knowledgeable and seems to be having fun in this position. She's had some interesting stories, from the sound of things. If she didn't have more appointments, I wanted to buy her a beer.

Really relieved to have the car out of our possession. DH started it on Sunday and drove it around...discovered the glove box FULL of water (it had been parked nose-down on our steep driveway). That POS pano sunroof clearly leaks. At least 2/6 gears don't really shift, A/C is dead. This buyback couldn't have come sooner.

Add me to the list of smooth buybacks. I turned in my 2011 Golf TDI yesterday. I showed up early & was done in 10 minutes. The women who processed my buyback was friendly & efficient. I got my email receipt while I chatted with the processor about us both being long time VW owners.
I'm just waiting on the email from Chase. Hopefully it will show up tonight.
I'm sad to see the TDI go. It's been a good, fun to drive car.
My only issue has been the Takata air bag recall which is still in limbo since last February :(

As others have pointed out: email from Chase @ 11:12 EST next day from turn in (last night). Money in my account early this morning.

Just dropped off my 2012 Golf. :( This is the first car that I have ever been sad about seeing it go. The transaction was smooth and the reps helping were fantastic. Some of the stories I heard from them as well as the service advisor at another dealership were scary.

Already have the replacement, a 2012 GTI with 32k miles on it. Very fun car but having to get gas all the time is going to take some getting used to. Keeping my fingers crossed that VW brings back diesels to this market in the near future. A TDI Tiguan would be awesome.

Just wanted to triple check on this - body condition doesn't affect buyback offer, right? A coworker just smashed up my front grill and crack the plastic bumper cover. I have a 2014 and don't drive more than the 1250 mile monthly allowance, so was going to schedule a buyback as late as possible. No way I'm getting it fixed if it doesn't affect my buyback and given the post about some folks with real mechanical issues, I felt pretty comfortable, but my brother just told me that some others that did drastic strip downs got dinged.

Thanks in advance.

Last TDI handed in today.

My journey here in the sub forum has gone full circle. I remember one of my first posts in threadzilla asking if my salvaged post 9/15/15 Golf would be considered for buyback, and being laughed at, or scorned.

Well my wonderful 13 Golf has turned into a sweet memory and a hefty bank account deposit, but I will miss it.

I hope Fred starts a new forum based on what I think will be the next great car. The ID. Electric cars could be just as special as our beloved TDI's. I hope I get to share my passion for one here some day.

Applied (changed from fix) on 12/21/2016, approved on 1/17/2017, appointment on 02/24/2016. All done and now waiting email from JP Morgan. Only I would add, if you have two people on title, and only one goes to appointment, don't use VW Power of Attorney form, use just general form.

Mine went back today, 96064 miles and in very good condition for its age and miles. It was fun having it, all-in.

I would consider another VW, but my particular reason for having bought this car was the TDI. You never know, but I doubt I will see VW offering anything like it again. Maybe a GTI, though. We'll see.

Monday passed and still no email from Chase JP Morgan. Well one of many VW's email said it should be within 3 business days. Well I guess Friday, Monday and Tuesday. But it's still bothering me I have returned car and I should get my money in at least Monday. It's some kind scam by JP Morgan, making money for week on my money, since 3 days to contact me than 3 days to transfer. What is bs all this. I may be done with VW forever, it left bitter taste.
