I am looking for IQ values on BEW engines (2004 and early 2005 Jetta's) (2004-2006 Golf's and New Beetle's).

A friend has one that is running with an IQ of about 12 mg/stroke at idle when warm. This seems excessive to me, even for an automatic, but I have little experience with them.

So if you have any numbers or can get them, please post them for me.

I hooked my 05 Golf up to VCDS, Engine Measuring Blocks, group 5: Start of injection quantity reads 12.6 mg/str. Is this the right screen and also do you know why I keep getting "No Response from Controller" messages? I see this in other categories as well. Mine is an automatic as well.

Try looking in measuring block 1, please. I think the value in 5 is the one the ECU will first use when trying to start the car, not what it is running at idle.

Thanks for the response.

The no response from controller has happened a lot with some updates of VCDS. It can also be due to K line problems on your car, but I would not be concerned unless it persisted after the next VCDS update.

My laptop does better in this regard immediately after rebooting it, but it will not be long until I get the dreaded message.

Thanks, Dan. I don't recall anything in group 1 rearding IQ, but I will check again tomorrow.

Update, no group one on my Golf; Engine, Measuring Blocks. Group 5 did show the same 12.6. This is with the engine @ 903 rpm idle. I went as far as group 12 until the no response message, but no other IQ's other than group 5. Wish I could be of further assistance.

Thanks for trying.

It seems odd that you do not have group 001 in measuring value blocks for a BEW. There is no group 000 for the BEW, as there is in the ALH, but I have always found block 001.

My label file shows:
001,0,Injection Quantity

001,1,Engine Speed,(G28),Specification (Idle): 860...940 RPM\nSpecification (Full Load): 2800...3200 RPM

001,2,Injection Quantity,,Specification (Idle): 3.0...9.0 mg/Str.

001,3,Injection Duration,(specified),Specification (Idle): 3.0...9.0 °CF

001,4,Coolant,Temperature (G62),Range: -40.5...+135.0 °C\nSpecification (Warm): 80.0...110.0 °C

The layout you have for group one coincides with my Group 5. I'm surprised no other BEW's have posted. The 12. IQ seems to be in the ball park, IMO.

IBI,
Thanks, that seems much more normal to me.
The IQ in mvb 001 is a live number, changing all the time as the engine runs.
The IQ number in MVB 005 only changes immediately prior to start and during extended cranking. It is the number that the start controller is asking for.

I was expecting to see about 3 to 5 mg stroke in a warmed engine at idle, with no AC, fans or lights on.

A friend has a BEW tiptronic that is idling at about 12-13 mg stroke. I am afraid he has some tranny drag, or something else is going on. Fuel system (lift and tandem pumps) check out ok.

Ok, thanks for the info.
So I took another log (link) while putting the auto in "drive".
The IQ went up to 8.5. Hope that helps you troubleshoot further...
