I've read a lot of back and forth, some say a CR170 and upgraded clutch is incredible. Some say it isn't worth the money and to go straight for a GTD1756VRK... I have a manual 2010 JSW which is my daily car. Most of its use is highway, however there are plenty of times where I am in very heavy, stop and go traffic, so a super stiff and grabby clutch isn't exactly ideal. From the specs, it looks like a SACHS performance clutch is rated for 400FtLbs which will be more than enough and close to stock pedal feel. MecEvo Link for reference (https://mecevo.com/parts/sachs_performance_dual_mass_flywheel_kit_with_sre_performance_kit.html). Currently, the car has the stock CR140 turbo with a mecevo 2.5" downpipe and malone stage 2. The car is not fast, but it gets out of its own way far better than it did stock, and now I can merge unto highways without getting run down. When a component inevitably fails, be it clutch or turbo or god forbid the brass shift forks.. I will be upgrading the clutch and turbo. I would like to minimize spending to the greatest extent possible, however mecevo also offers an upgraded HPFP good for 300 wheel hp, considering its a direct bolt on I am going to assume its a Bosch CP4 (https://mecevo.com/parts/high_fueling_cr140cr150_hpfp.html).

Does anyone have experience with a daily GTD1756VRK? Do you think its worth twice what a CR170 costs? Can you exceed 400Ftlbs with stock fueling?

Just a lot of questions, to me, the sachs performance clutch and a CR170 with the stock fuel pump and tune will be the best daily driver path forward.

For stock like response, just with A LOT more authority and go go go, get into one of these https://www.xmanturbos.com/product-page/2-0tdi-cr140-cjaa-cbea-cbab-bv43-52mm-billet-wheel-hybrid and if you're already set on upping the fueling, get you a CP3 from him https://www.xmanturbos.com/product-...kit-for-2-0tdi-cr-engines-cjaa-cbea-cbab-cbbb and 4bar MAP sensor and new tune. Daily driver reliable and loads of fun!

If you want more go go go, you could always go with the non-ball bearing GTB for FAAAAR less money (I don't know that the MEC version is worth over $1k more) https://www.xmanturbos.com/product-page/2-0tdi-cr140-cjaa-cbea-cbab-gtb1756vk-turbocharger but the BV43 hybrid turbo is a great setup.

Not sure what the fuel pump is that Mevevo is selling but CP3 is the way to go if you're upgrading. Maybe theirs is a CP3 and it just doesn't spell it out on the site.

thank you for the feedback! I have been all over xmans site! I was really wanting their hybrid that’s built on the euro manifold since my DPF is long gone anyway. I change direction after running into a lot of threads stating that hybrid 1752 was unacceptably laggy, not building boost until 2500/2700 RPM. Do you have experience with that turbo? For the price you can’t beat it, and I think it’s a perfect middle ground for a fair price

I don't have experience with that one and maybe the bb is the secret sauce to getting it to spool fast like the stock, basic CR170 and BV43 hybrid but I'd want to see some actual proof (dyno graphs) and maybe even real world experience to justify the huge premium the ball bearing variant demands.

I wonder the same, I've been hunting for good information on both setups... An advantage to the 1752 Xman hybrid is its built on a CR170 compressor housing, so the CR170 intake pipe will work. That was another question I had for the 1756, I guess I'd need to find a silicone intake tube that would work well enough and adapt it to the stock MAF...

Another advantage, that Xman 1752 hybrid is $200 cheaper than a stock CR170 from TunemyEuro... I feel I could hit a comfortable 200-210HP without hitting massive turbine speeds and with stock fueling, 3 BAR map sensor, (Or whatever Malone prefers).. and sachs 400ftbl clutch

I suggest you look at the thread below and decided for yourself if you want to go Xman GTB1756 or similar. That member said the 1756 have been a pain in the ass to install, sort everything out and if he would have known he would get the Xman CR170 hyrbid instead because it´s plug and play. Will post to see how is his project. I install 1 month ago the Xman CR170 hybrid for CJAA and it have been awesome. Turbo spools very fast same as the stock turbo and it holds +25PSI in the 4,000 rpm range. Plug & play with a 4 bar map and also installed a GM fuel metering valve the same one Darkside sells for $100 more on their website. Later maybe by the end of the year or next year will get a CP3. Don´t get a CP3 from Xman i read some people on facebook groups of TDI that their CP3 have exploded. Sure they send a replacement and etc but you have to stop the car until you get the CP3.

Thanks for linking this thread! That falls right inline with what I’ve seen too. CR170 hybrid seems to be one of the best options.. Sadly, with California outlawing ECU tuning, (im likely moving there for work in the next couple years) even with my emissions retained I won’t be able to run a non stock turbo. Unless I roll the dice on a stock tune with a big turbo and see if it throws a check engine light or not lol. The expected boost for VNT position will be wayyy off for the stock map. So I am doubtful it’ll work long enough to pass smog

Xman sells the same CR170 hybrid but with emissions intact sure it´s more expensive. Here are the 2 options. Mine is the one for deleted because in my country there is no emission regulation. The second one is the same turbo but you can retain emissions with that turbo. With a CR170 or a hybrid you can run even at stock tune or stage 2. The turbo will behave like the stock one but with lower EGT. If you buy the second one you can retain emission and will pass smog test also flash the ECU back to stock if needed.

I do wonder how it will behave on a stock tune… at minimum along with the flash back to stock, I’ll need to swap back to the stock 2 bar map sensor, perhaps the ECUs vnt position - boost target map will adjust enough on its own to work “well enough” to get a smog check done..

Some people here have installed the normal CR170 on stock car. One person here took the car bone stock with a CR170 turbo to the dyno and it did 152hp from 140hp to the engine but he said the car felt the same. I imagine with the Xman CR170 is the same it can work fine with a stock tune. I think Malone Tuning/Tunezilla told me once that the CR170 or the Xman CR170 work fine with the stock tune or stage 2.

Oh man that makes me a whole lot more excited for the future of this car. Thank you for that information, I was getting a little discouraged to be honest. At full stock, the car ran like absolute garbage. The engine sounded like a box of rocks under part throttle, it was almost guaranteed to die if you had the AC on and were trying to get moving in 1st gear, it would start active regenerations on the highway and smell like the car was on fire… all of that went away with a tune, even with all emissions retained.
