Hello,
I'm replacing my harmonic balancer on my 96 B4 passat TDI. Someone referenced the 'easy way' to remove the power steering v-belt and wondering if anyone knows what that is. Seems like there's a simple tensioning bolt that will allow slack to pull the belt. Am i missing something simple?
Thanks

It's the 13mm with the funny geared collar, on the power steering pump. You might need to loosen other bolts on the pump.

Another way is to remove the 3 allens and pop the pulley off the PS pump, then pop it back on & reinstall the allen bolts.

thank you, great tip. Think i'll loosen first then if I still can't get belt over i'll just remove pulley. Much appreciated.

Where’d you pull that pic from. The alternator tension appears to be spring loaded, like the ABF.

PS mounting is identical between gas and diesel for the 4 cylinder engines except for bracket 18 which is only slightly different. The spring loaded alternator bracket is for a different setup that I don't believe we got here in the US.
