Now has 162.ooo km and new dampers and a new clutch. Ready to go for the next 150.ooo km.

BTW, survives everything. Crash with a truck and loss of oil pump for 6 miles ... The "Wonderpolo" !

What kind of fuel mileage does it get?

It really is a shame that we cannot get a Polo or that Audi A2 over here, wish we had some good quality diesel fuel so we could.

It is a standard IDI Diesel.
Interesting is that it has a crossflow head and has the same features as the 5-cyl diesels, i.e. one belt from the crankcase to drive the camshaft and on the opposite side another belt from the cam to drive the Inj.pump.

Fuel usage: 3.5Litre when doing a constant 90km/h (done once)
5.6Litre when going flat out for hours (done often)
Average for 72.000km: 4,8 Litre, Oil usage 0,8Litre per 10.000km.

Quality of fuel doesn´t matter for this car, it runs on everything. In fact there are quite a lot converted for the use of pure vegetable oil ... www.fmso.de
