The 99.5 TDI Jetta's cruise switch is dieing. It is worth it to have a working cruise control, and unfortunately it is just too intermittent, and is frustrating to use. So I'd like to get a switch.

The VW listed part is 8L0 953 513J, which has a single button the the end. The part I would like to use is a 1J0 953 513, which has two buttons on the end and appears identical to my 2002 and 2003 cruise control.

What I can't seem to find is whether the 1J0 953 513 would work or not. I can't even eyeball them to see if the connectors are identical, etc.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Not a 100% sure but I just fitted the newer stalk into a really early mk4, a 98 one non can. I'm in the UK obviously but still, it is a non can car and the cruise works perfect.

I'm 99.9% sure it'll be a straight swap.

Thanks. You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the newer one?

That second number you posted is the one I'm talking about, 1J0 953 513, that's the newer type.

I've actually fitted that older one, 8L0 953 513J, into a newer passat come to think of it, that's the one a friend picked up, same plug, same wiring loom. The passat was an 2002 plate with the PD130 engine.

That single button on the end is a rocker switch too isn't it?

The 1J0 953 513 has a SET and RESume button on the end.

The 8L0 953 513J has one big button which as near as I can tell is just a SET button.

The newer switch with the rocker buttons for cruise will work. We just installed one in our 99.5 Mk4.

Looking at google images it looks like it still has the + and - on it as if it's a rocker. I can't fully remember because I didn't pay that much attention when I fitted it but hey ho, don't suppose it really matters

OK, I will get the 1J0 953 513 style part.

Now I need to see what I need to get the steering wheel and airbag off. I probably have the bits I need, but may need a tool for the airbag.

Thanks, guys.
