2010 Sportwagons -- Disguised on US 35

I was on US 35 last week, about 10 miles East of Chillicothe, Ohio, when I was passed by 4 VW Sportwagens, 3 in disguise, and the 4th a 2009 model.

They had Michigan Manufacturer Plates.

I caught up with them in a rest area just east of Gallipolis. I took some pictures, but was not allowed any close ups of the 3 disguised cars.

I asked where they were headed, and the reply was "Somewhere in West Virginia".

These cars had a new tailight set up (side by side squares) and the dash was all new, and very nice. I couldn't tell much about the front, other than new headlights. The hood's has a padded piece on the top to disguise the shape.

One of the 3 was a TDI.

I bet these are Audi versions being tested . Or worst case VW is still reliability testing , if this is the case I hope they find any problems before they crop up in the general publics cars .


Haven't seen it in a couple of years but I have seen test cars in Colorado like this before .

Actually the pads you see are normally for heat testing not for hiding.

it's the VW touran, which is sold in Europe as their smallish minivan. It's on the MK5 golf/jetta/rabbit platform, so not too far off from a sportwagen, but has 3 rows of seats and capacity for 7. Mazda5 competitor? With diesel? I like.

I would like that too! We have Mazda5 and I love being able to claim it is the most fuel efficient minivan in Canada. And the only Minivan with a manual transmission. And I would love to replace the golf with diesel Minivan (when the time comes, ofcourse)! I keep bugging my wife: "Look honey, if you want to have a third kid then I have to seriously consider the Dodge Sprinter: it is the only minivan we can get in a diesel." I think there is a MB crossover with a diesel, but I could get two sprinters for the price of one of those.

I actually replaced my Golf with a Mazda5 because of a space issue...now if the Touran comes in here with diesel, I'll be bummed out...or give the Mazda to my wife.

nope. the disguised ones are Chevrolet Tacumas, a new mini-MPV that Chevy is coming out with. I am confused about the Touran. Did Chevy want to divert people's attention?

This is too freaking weird. The original poster's pictures were taken in the USA and the VW has USA plates.

The nextautos pictures were taken in Europe somewhere and the VW has euopean plates?@!

Did this caravan of three disguised vehicles and one VW travel across the Atlantic?!
