I have a VW Beetle TDI. I have replaced the following parts: Head gasket, timing belt, valves, lifters, injectors and Injector Pump. Timing and compression is good. Car is missing above 2K RPM. Ideas!!
Thanks in advance.

It wasn't running. Timing belt had slipped. It ran fine initially, however, it had a starting problem. All of the glow plugs had been replaced. The car had been sitting for awhile prior to the new timing belt.

Rick-----sure you got the valve timing correct? Had it scanned yet? Use this
forum to find a trustworthy TDI Guru near you. Bound to be one. Good
luck and don't give up it's probably something simple.

Trying to establish a baseline as lots of parts have evidently been replaced. Take the the injection pump for example. Why was it replaced? In an effort to cure the current problem? The belt slipped and this caused the catastrophe resulting in the need for the head work? Then it "ran fine initially"? Or? You give very little to really go on without the chronology. When did the starting problem occur in the timeline?

Done ranting.

If all the parts you currently have are OK, then you need to run some logs on VCDS to check the MAF pressures and the turbo function.

Thanks for the input. Here's the order.

Timing Belt slipped.
Head removed.
Valves and lifters replaced.
Head reinstalled.
New Timing Belt, Tensioner, Pulleys and Water Pump installed.
Car started after priming Inj Pump.
Took to local shop for timing/tuning.
Following day didn't want to start well like the glow plugs weren't working.
Replaced Glow Plugs and Wiring Harness.
Still difficult to start.
Back to local shop.
Again, checked timing. OK
Shop replaced Injectors.
Still missing.
Shop replaced Injector Pump and timed.
Still missing.

Hope this helps with diagnostic>

Thanks

Rick

How many miles on the car ?

Sounds like you did the head and valves R&R, then took it to a shop after it didn't run well ?

Glow plugs aren't needed above 45F or so, not sure on your local weather.

Unfortunately it sounds the like shop you are using doesn't know TDIs.. Obviously if the car runs the same afterwards, its doubtful you needed injectors or a IP.

Checking the cam and static injection timing would be my first step. Next step I might check the compression. Then I might look at the injector balance. I might also check the intake path, snow screen, clogged intake etc.. A clogged fuel filter might also cause that kind of symptom.

Are they any codes, check engine light on ?

Does it smoke above 2K rpm ?

Some things I'd be looking at:
Compression check-poor compression can cause hard starts.
Fuel filter- maybe starving the pump?
check all vacuum & pressure lines including the ecu
Check coolant temp sensor via VCDS

Compression is good.

All Vac lines have been replaced under the hood.

Old injectors didn't have a good spray pattern. Couple of plugged holes.

Car wouldn't start easily even @ 60 degrees.

Fuel filter hasn't been replaced yet.

Car had sit for a couple of years before timing belt problem.

Diesel fuel injector cleaner had been installed in the tank.

Injectors (rebuilt). Don't know if they have been tuned.

It's been suggested that the fuel filter can cause hard starts and missing at higher RPMs.

Intake was cleaned thoroughly. Thanks again! Rick

Change the fuel filter next. After all that injector pump and nozzle work, I'm suprised that hasn't been done.
