This is for my brother's 05. He is having issues. Now mind you, he is not mechanically inclined so the information I get is sketchy to say the least. Vehicle starts and warms fine. When it reaches operational temperature will max at 65 mph on highway. Max at 25 mph on hills. Excessive exhaust. Has codes but doesn't know what they are. Will get them to me in a day or two. Turbo replaced, air flow 'meter' replaced. Still the same symptoms. He is ready to junk the car, against my advice. He does not monitor oil changes, that is to say, takes it to a regular mechanic. TDI mechanics are not to be found on Long Island. Also, he goes a 19 foot boat with it, again against my advice.

Thoughts so far?

None thanks to dieselgate
Agreed, sounds like lack of boost. When my turbo outlet hose perforated, it was very loud. If a hose pops off completely, it may not be as 'audible'

Could be boost hose leak causing limp mode. Codes will reveal truth.

Out of TDI's
Also, there are two large hoses that can be a leak issue:

1. Battery ground cable can wear a hole in one by the turbo,

2. 90 degree at intake can split at elbow.

Both known issues with this car.
