01 Golf TDI, flasher or switch

The turn signals on my 01 Golf are acting up. They flash once (occasionally twice or so) when the turn signal level is moved to right or left; then they stop flashing. If the emergency flasher button is pressed in, everything flashes just fine.

So I am wondering if this is enough diagnosis to lay the blame at the turn signal switch? Wanted to be sure before going thru replacing it. Seemed that if the emergency flashers work, then it isn't the flasher unit (is that right?) Anything else worth checking here before I order a new turn switch assembly?

TIA

I agree with your diagnosis. Rather than an expensive brand new switch, just check people parting cars out. The mk IV generation cars are all plug 'n play, so get a later one that has the toggle switch on the end. I'm not sure when they switched, but my Y2ks had the single push button on the end and they are not nearly as robust and the later ones with the toggle.

Cheers,
