Problem: Driver side door light issue

The issue I have on my 2002 TDI is when I disarm the alarm and get in driver's side, the interior light doesn't come on, if I don't start the car right away the alarm arms itself. It doesn't happen with the other doors if they open, the interior light comes on so the car recognizes that someone got in or out. It can happen if you stop and shut the car off, leave the keys in the ignition and get out, BEEP you are now locked out. So I think this has something to do with the interior lights and driver's door. Does anyone have the same issue and what is involved to fix it?
