'03 Jetta - Low-beams flicker on/off while high beams on?

Hey all

First off, I've got to say the folks on this forum are awesome! I've saved SO much money and hassle by searching/reading this site.

I've got an odd one I guess as searching the MkIV forum didn't yield anything.

For the last week or so, it appears that my low beams are flickering on/off while I'm driving with my high beams on. While this is happening, I can hear an electrical buzzing coming from somewhere in the dash. I'm guessing that there's a switch or relay that's going south and that that is the root cause of my problem.

Can anyone confirm/deny my preliminary diagnosis? Also, would it be the headlight switch in the dash or is there a relay buried somewhere?

The only relay in the light circuit is the DRL relay. It has a 173 printed on it.

It could be the hi-beam/lo-beam portion of the combination switch in the steering column. I was having similar problems, took the switch apart and cleaned up the contacts. Though it fixed the problem for a while, I ended up having to replace the switch. Easy to do and not expensive (~$80).
