Live in Valley ranch, but I am all over Dallas all the time.Sounds good, Jon (that's my son's name too). Welcome to TDIClub. What city are you in?
I use a guy in Ft Worth to do my Audi stuff. He's very very reasonable, and a super nice guy. Worth the drive Steve Zink 832-257-4213 Tell him Jon with the Devil A6 sent youI live in Garland right off the lake. any tips do's don'ts on VW's. I've only owned my Jetta for about a month now.
I had a MAF code pop up a couple of days ago, and thanks to all the incredible info on here help me figure out the problem myself. I don't think it made much/if any difference in power, but went ahead and disconnected the battery, sprayed the crap out of the sensor itself along with both sides of the harnesses with some Radio Shack electronic cleaner, waited a couple of hours to make sure everything was dry, then I reset the ECU by touching the Negative battery terminal to the Positive side for a split second (i'm told that resets the ECU) Two days later... no check engine light and my seems to be running perfect.
Do you have any recommendations for someone who can change my clutch, timing belt, and water pump for a good price around DFW?
One word of advice...VW/Audi specialists don't necessarily make good TDI mechanics. I had a timing belt job totally botched by a very well respected VW/Audi shop in Dallas. Other people have had similar experiences. For items related to the car, and not the engine, he may be fine. However, for anything engine/diesel related (including and especially timing belts!), one of our established TDI gurus are the way to go. NEWB from Celina, TX but, work in Lewisville. Bought mine as a commuter but, plan on making it a little faster with a tune, injectors and maybe a turbo. It is an early 05 5 speed car. So far veraging about 35 mpg running it like I want to and not really babying it for "Hyper-mileage"
That's exactly why I bought mine. Sold my GMC 2500hd 4x4 that got 11mpg to get this as a daily driver, but I have to have some fun with it!I guess that makes us neighbors!
